The story has been a bit underwhelming so far. Does anybody know if this is a good adaptation of the novel?

They follow the story and don't change much (the dumbass garbage, the murder, romance details,...) which is a plus to me. However, I know what you mean, convert a whole novel into images isn't easy and most of the time, pacing may feel weird. The strong point of this novel is the way author convey MC thought, feeling into word in harmony. It doesn't have a big plot twist, they both know they are special to each other. Their love is calm and pure, no misunderstood or drama (which kinda rare).
I suggest you find a good translated novel version if you want to enjoy it since this adaption isn't bad but definitely can do better.
