wonder if hooded eye-mask person is secretly on Lutecia's side, it's at least an ok sign that they just stopped Hein from fighting rather than incapacitating her with an attack or something

but enough about that, it's time for a sick fight against a magic-abusing knight lol, I doubt Shurine wins this encounter but I'm excited to see what she pulls off either way

thanks for the chapter!

Taking hostage after you've established you want to kill everyone is kinda pointless no?
No? Because YOU still don’t want to die, and a hostage is a meat shield/insurance. It’s why bad guys are always holding the love interest hostage in movies, while also trying to launch a nuke or something.

The problem is they've already declared they intend to kill her, so saying "surrender or we'll kill her" is kind of pointless.

The whole time they've been trying to kidnap/kill Lutecia, so if anything she'd rather die on her own term instead of theirs.

Shurine and Hein are being framed for false charge, and there's 100% chance they'll be killed after being captured given the bastard he is.

So again, there's 0 reason for any of them to change their mind/hesitate even if Lutecia get taken hostage.

For a hostage to work, either the hero has to be dumb enough to not think of what the villain will do after, or there's actual reason to believe the villain won't just go 'ok so anyway you all die now' immediately after.

If I can drop a nuke and I know everyone I know in the area is already gone and it's only bad guys I'd just drop it in a heartbeat cya.

If there's something important to me that would give me second thoughts then it'd be in the bad guy's interest to keep that thing around until I'm dead before they can then get rid of it. The order of killing matters.

In this case even though Shurine knows if she loses both she and Lutecia will die. But as long as Luticia isn't dead yet, there's still a chance that they can all come out alive, even if means pulling her punches. Otherwise she ought to kill Lutecia herself in front of everyone then kill the rest of them. It'd be same as killing everyone and don't care if they kill Lutecia trying to get you to stop. Or just ditch them and escape.

i understand Shurine is confident in her own strength but i just can't imagine a skilled swordsman would actually try to cut through plate armor, not to mention, the face plate
there are a lot more vulnerable spot you can swing at someone wearing plate armor
the face plate is not one of them

You've got that order backward.
ALL of them are going to die if Shurine/Hein lose. The condition for them to survive is on Shurine/Hein winning and save Lutecia if possible, not that Lutecia being alive is going to somehow make the bastard keep Shurine/Hein alive if they lose.

If anything any manpower the villain put towards keeping Lutecia hostage is less people Shurine has to deal with at the same time.
