Unrelated to the chapter, but my headcanon is going to the direction that this story is a Planet of the Ape situation.

Another theory that just came to me is that Hitoshi was maybe sent across the Milky Way to the other end of the galaxy, like through near the middle (where super massive black hole apparently resides). And well... that would take a very long time, but the galaxy also rotates in the mean time too. The time it would take for Hitoshi to reach the other side, perhaps it would be enough time for the galaxy to rotate and have the solar system end as his destination.
We're talking millions of years here, and enough for Kemos to evolve?

This came to me when I was reminded of this trivia that our solar system during the era of the dinosaurs was on the other side of our galaxy relative to us, today.

Any civilization advanced enough for interstellar personal travel, nanomachines and real AI is advanced enough to know that and include it in the calculation. I mean we already include the orbital movement of the planets into calculating the trajectories for our current space probes. Not including it in the galaxy scale transportation would be such a massive fuckup that those people wouldnt be able to build the rockets in the first place. And I would be massively disappointed in the author if they tried to explain it that way. Till now they provided a very science (& sociology) based view in their manga. I hope it stays that way.

For those who were eager to kill a hito they seem to lack inter-country rivalries and "more than rivalries". Are they hiding something from our boy? To look better in his eyes, perhaps

I think human civilization survived and continued to advance while hitoshi was traveling, and created a way to go faster than light. It would explain why there are humans, called hito, in kemo mythology. Its too big a coincidence otherwise.

Slight correction, the translation describes the orbital velocity of Earth as 30,000 licks per second, and to leave Earth's gravitational pull as 42,000 lps, which roughly aligns with the 8 and 11 kps, respectively. So all we know is that 4 licks come to about 1 meter.
