Sure Ham is a jerk but you have to feel at least a little bad for him here. Seeing that you were on the right track but your dream was crushed by simple beuaracracy and being a decade or two too early technology wise has got to sting a bit.

I mean his mission was to make contact with alien life, so he probably was trained to remain calm in such a situation, maybe even perhaps given training to be a political ambassador of sorts...

That ending was what I was hoping for: Hito is providing details on the grounds that it receives proper regulation as well. It makes sense that he wants to avoid future pitfalls like creating their own version of Kessler Syndrome or star wars, etc.

Their whole thing so far has been "multiple tribes came peacefully together to advance." Plus, our MC has been vague on human history, emphasizing the cooperation as well. However, it's likely setting up the contrast. How will this planet of cooperative animals take the realization that human history is built upon finding more and more efficient ways to kill each other? There is still the AI in orbit. after all, and who knows what she is willing to say...
