What if they invented fire.
Of cource they did. They have trains and cameras for fucks sake. Then again, it raises a question why are they so flabberghasted by a porrige with fish? It's not high tech, it's something perfectly possible on their technological level.
Imagine if tomorrow a flying saucer lands in some big city, alien comes out of it and does a sick ollie on his skateboard. Then he tells us this was the sole reason he came, packs up and flies away. Wouold you be thinking about if Tony Hawk in his prime would beat him in a skate-off?

This chapter reminded me of when my dad gave my cat one of those dried peppers you get in chinese food. Cat was fine and lived to a ripe old age, but he didn't deserve to experience spicy hell when he thought he was being given a nice treat.

I don't get it. Sure, we can eat a lot of different stuff. But carnivores should have much easier time digesting meat, which can be raw or even rotten. That's an important source of protein we couldn't fully utilize before the invention of fire. And herbivores should be getting much more out of plant and grain.

Another thing. I guess it's not far enough in the future that just anybody can go in space(but far enough that they let people just fly wherever and alone), and he supposed to have outstanding health and atleticism, but I don't buy that he's stronger than a bear, for example.
The chimp scientist stated that, although the astronaut did not excel in any particular category when compared to athletes who do, it’s the fact that the astronaut does well in ALL categories that is exceptional.
For example, although the bear might win in strength, the astronaut likely outpaces the bear in swimming. And although the astronaut is likely weaker than a kangaroo at jumping and the cheetah at sprinting, the astronaut is more competent in those categories than many animals, and consistently stays good in all categories, whereas all other animals have a definitive, physiological weakness in an area, like a bear at vertical jumping, a kangaroo at climbing, or a cheetah at endurance sports.

To the point of the food thing, I think it’s just the range that baffles the animals. Yeah carnivores can eat rotten meat and the astronaut can’t, but the astronaut can eat most other things that carnivores can’t. Vice versa for herbivores. And omnivore typically still need a specialized diet. For example, although some dogs can eat carrion, it’s not good for a dog to eat onion, chocolate, garlic, etc. Even rats, which can eat seeds, grains, meat, insects, and fungi cannot digest large amounts of cellulose, and rats are arguably one of the most versatile omnivores.

This won't end well when he tells them the REAL reasons humans were looking for another planet like Earth, and what we did to our own planet.
Sincerly doubt any potential devastation to the planet rendering it unlivable would still enable interstellar travel. Supremely unlikely that humans could find a way to get to another star with a livable planet physically but not arrest human driven environmental decline.

Technically it doesn't have to be environmental decline. If our current weapons already have a non-zero chance of rendering the planet unlivable for us, imagine what proper space age tech could do.

When I saw that moon I first thought it was suspiciously close to our moon, but after checking: it is not the same. So the Planet of the Ape twists can already be rules out.

But it is very surprising to me that they still didnt talk about the single most important inconsistency yet: How did the Kemo know of the Hito? 2 theories come to my mind: there either was indeed a meeting before the current one (as they implied a bit by the Kemo origin story: maybe uplifted by humans?) or their and our planet had both roughly same evolution till a point and on Earth the humans killed all other intelligent species (as we kind of did with our human sibling species in real life), while on Kemo the humans got killed off somehow.

Just how long was the journey if Earth as a planet is gone?
I think the implication is rather supposed to be that they don't know where Earth is and how long the travel time was. So to them that planet is lost somewhere in the galaxy and there is no chance of contact, so it can be considered gone for all intents and purposes.

Hitoshi states he went into deep sleep to survive his journey. He doesn't give a specific amount of time, but he brings up that years may have passed since he left Earth. Also, time is relative when it comes to space so we really can't tell how long its been.

Time isn't relative as long as you know your travel speed to account for time dilation.

This entire line reads to me as "I traveled so far and so long, that my world might as well be gone now."
