I mean men can still have kids pretty late, so it's not impossible that grandpa had a new kid (possibly out of wedlock) and then to hide the shame they gave it to their son and told him to raise it alongside their son.
Though depending on the grandparent ages, if they are "relatively" young, then yeah maybe it was just roll of a dice and they decided "we're too old for this shit"

most likely the grandparents had a menopausal baby at the same time the parents had a baby, this shit is so weird especially since i know a real life example since my friend is eerily in the position of the guy, he is the son of the parents while the grandparents had a menopausal baby which is his aunt by lineage even though shes younger than him
