@Varler As stated in earlier chapters, it'd cost too much for both Benno and the Guildmaster to be able to cover it.

>>>Blastron's translation isn't perfect.

The exact word, taken from the RAW is: 壊れかけ寸前, which is 'it's on the verge of breaking'

<<<So you admit here that it's not low quality as you previously stated. This does not mean low quality. It simply means it's about to break. Nowhere in that sentence does it state 'low quality'. If a fan used to work for 5 years, then suddenly one day it sometimes work and sometimes don't, would you call that 'low quality' or 'broken'? Will you still use it or start looking for a new one? And when you see the fan to a second hand shop, will the owner buy it as a low quality item that can be used as is or as a broken item that needs to be repaired?

>>>Yes she's using water as example, but she clearly referenced the mana and the mana capacity right there. (ch 49 in the RAW, not sure what it is for blastron, it's basically the chapter after this or two in the manga tho)
<<<Alright, I will have a look at the chapter later. If I terribly disagree, I will come back. If it's just minor disagreement, I won't. This has dragged on long enough.

>>>As for when'd nobles not having infinite resourced mentioned....uhhh, all the time? Like how the temple is in serious mana shortage (and thus the desperation to recruit Myne) because a lot of the priests were called to Central or back home.
Or I believe around the time of noble cleans up, where a bunch of children of the traitor nobles are put into orphanage (at Myne's pleading, instead of being executed on the spot)
<<<Having serious mana shortage means there is not enough people to OPERATE such magic tools. It DOES NOT mean they do not have the resources to MAKE the magic tools.

<<<If there are 20 cars and only 6 people can drive, the other 14 cars will still be there. It does not inform you that they do not have the ability to make more cars, only do not have the ability to drive all of them. If it's specifically said that they don't have enough STEEL, then only does it mean they can't make more cars.

>>>"Hey I figured out a method that cure one thing, but just have the potential risk of causing devastating damage to the surrounding, let's use it!"
<<<So what's wrong with it? Nuclear bombs exist, right? It's the cure, it's what prevented major wars. But if someone launches one, everyone will launch all, and we'll all be doomed.

>>>Myne intentionally spawned toronbe to farm their parts at one point, so she clearly used MULTIPLE fruits and she still have magic to spare.
<<<This is true, but it doesn't mean she 'clearly used' multiple fruits. Toronbe becomes big very fast if you do not cut them down immediately and one Tau fruit can explode into multiple toronbe growths. So you'd need the passage to clearly state how many toronbe seeds were used to say that multiple seeds were used.

>And when you see the fan to a second hand shop, will the owner buy it as a low quality item that can be used as is or as a broken item that needs to be repaired?

But in the same vein, it's not broken, it still function perfectly fine.

So it's not a fan that sometimes work and sometimes don't, it's more like a gift card that's got very little left on it. It can still be used perfectly fine, just not much more.

>Having serious mana shortage means there is not enough people to OPERATE such magic tools. It DOES NOT mean they do not have the resources to MAKE the magic tools.

Umm, you do need mana to make magic tools though? MANA IS RESOURCE in this world, with many things have running mana cost such that a lot of noble jobs are literally just being battery for something (domain lord charging the domain itself, Priests charging the divine tools, etc)
Less people = less overall mana to use = less mana to spare after deduct the things that absolutely need to be charged (like, you know, the land itself so it doesn't turn back into barren desert)

Using your own example, it'd be that these are cars that RUN ON MANA, and those 6 people have to charge the cars to run them. Guess what, the 6 can't charge all 20 cars, so not all cars can be operated.

Like, how far are you in the novel? There's a chapter about making magic tools that is essentially.
Put magic stones of appropriate quality in.
Staff into stirring rod.
Keep stirring while inputting mana.

>Nuclear bombs exist, right? It's the cure, it's what prevented major wars.
....I can't even.
It's DETERRENCE. It's not a cure.
It's basically the same as pointing a gun at someone and threaten them not to do something.
It does not cure them of doing said things, you're just threatening them with the consequence.

>Toronbe becomes big very fast if you do not cut them down immediately and one Tau fruit can explode into multiple toronbe growths. So you'd need the passage to clearly state how many toronbe seeds were used to say that multiple seeds were used.

Except we've precedents in the early chapter.
The 1 fruit that Myne accidentally spawned (and Lutz and other kids quickly took down) gave her materials to make some papers.
Even assuming that 70% were lost in trial and error part, it still gave her the 3 sheets she delivered to Benno.
And we also established in that same chapter that it has to be the freshly spawned ones, otherwise they harden and can't be used for paper making.

So with those details in tow, do you seriously think Myne will use only just 1 seed?
(It's also the orphanage children, multiple, who went out to gather the fruit under pretext of holding their own star festival at the orphanage)

No I'm not going to look up which chapter she did this, after that stupid nuclear bomb = cure comment I don't even know if I want to keep talking to you.

@jonathaneze : 'consuming' 'devouring' or whatever you want to call it (the raw is just 'self eating/migui')
where your body has more mana than it can hold inside and starts causing damage to itself
the strength of the attack depends on your total mana capacity, but each time you manage to survive (through force of will), it increases the amount of mana you hold so the next attack will be stronger

@jonathaneze : Not quite. The details is a bit of spoiler + long so read if you want
She's reborn with fairly high, but nothing 'out of ordinary'...yet.

It's her constant struggle with the attacks that resulted in her massive mana pool.
See, each time to push them back in, she's also compressing those fever, making them denser.
This is 'mana compression', a practice that teenage nobles and adults do to increases their mana pool to as high as they can.
(the reason it's done after teen years is due to requiring strong mental strength to resist failure, which can be death)

The way to solve it is simply finding a magic device that you can pour your mana into.
For most nobles, this is a magic tool that store their excess mana into magic stones that they'll use during school year later.
However, in case there's too many nobles and they can't prepare the draining tool + magic stones for all their kids, they'll send the rest to the Temple.
At the temple there's various divine tools that's used to worship the Gods, as well as some that is used for the people.

The most commonly used is the Earth Goddess's goblet. The priests charge it over the year, and during Spring they go to farming villages to release those stored mana as basically magical fertilizer.
More mana stored = better crop yield.

The second one is probably Water Goddess's staff, for healing the land ravaged by toronbe during Autumn.

The money option is basically for commoners like Myne who doesn't want to make contract with nobles (they keep you alive, you basically serve them) to get access to the tool because they're expensive + essential for nobles so outside of the ones on the verge of breaking the nobles aren't likely to sell them.

Though after going to the Temple, her 'teacher' flat out told her that she has too much mana that it's dangerous if she doesn't learn how to properly control them.
So he plan to send her to school by having one of his noble acquaintance adopt her as their children (there's also a few other reasons, but this is his main reason for it)
He himself actually went and graduated from there already, but due to circumstances he's at the Temple.

@jonathaneze : Well, since you're curious.
She actually get taught some advance stuffs before hand because her teacher was basically the top student during his years and she's such a competent student that he kept pushing to see how far she can go.
And also because circumstances demand it.

Don't worry though, intentionally and unintentionally, Myne ends up 'inventing' quite a few new things.
So, there's this one Mount magic tool where you basically create your own flying mount (to be more precise, you fill a magic stone with your mana and shape it to your will, afterward the stone will basically be locked to your mana signature and thus can only be used by you)
Normally people would create it based on an animal that's the symbol of the family + wings.
Myne basically made the cat bus from Totoro, except with red panda theme.

When during the mount creation class in school (so yeah, she made that pre-school) she showed it, some people panic due to how it resembles an existing monster.
But eventually more people, mostly female, adopted the 'car seat' model part of her mount because horse riding for a long period isn't very comfortable for ladies.

Even so, Myne's mount is still unique in that she can change its size at will (ranging from a simple single seat size to so large it can basically be used as a house)

Her non-magical inventions include teaching toys for children, with 2 actually being quite important enough to the domain.
Because praying to the Gods give you benefits in return, remembering the names of those Gods and who they are is quite important.

So Myne created basically poker cards, with each family of Gods representing a suit.
Although she initially made it as studying toys for the orphans (since they need to learn this to become apprentice), it become a very useful studying tool for noble children as well.

There's also, of course, printing machine, as well as colored inks, to make said cards...and her books.

And this one is early on, but after Myne taught Frida how to make pound cake and suggested to her the taste-tasting party to advertise it, Benno came to her sorta demanding that he now want in on food business too.
Well, Myne thought about it for a moment.
Then went "You know what, screw sweets, let's open Italian restaurant! I wanna eat Pizza, Pasta, etc!"
Lutz and Mark to the side has a conversation along the line of
Lutz "Oh, Myne's went into her unstoppable mode again"
Mark "Looks like Danna-sama will be losing this one"
And yes, they opened Italian restaurant in the end which include things like soft and fluffy bread made with yeast.

@Aichan and @WhimsiCat toronbe is only dangerous because it drains resources from the land when it sprouts, it does not do as much damage, if you inject "resources" into it for it to sprout. Each time Maine has handled a seed, it was pointed out by others that the toronbe didn't do damage compared to a regular outbreak, just tears the land, or pavement up. Also, if you are counting the sheets that Maine was able to make, to calculate the amount of toronbe that grew from Maine's toronbe outbreak. You have to remember that they didn't get all the cut seedlings, only what Lutz could carry, and most of them were already too big/mature, Gunther ended up with logs big enough to make some furniture.

@CountryMage : Uhh, no, that's wrong.

Yes it drains less resource when it sprout if some was injected, but IT GROWS, so if left alone it will drain resources from nearby still.

And you're thinking of two different toronbe encounters here. The one I was referring to was back when Lutz and Myne were in the process of making papers, where Myne caused it to sprout early and Lutz called other kids to help take it down, netting them pretty much the whole batch.

The one with Gunther is later on, where Myne was at the gate, in fact it's in ch 23, just one chapter ago.

@WhimsiCat no, I was combining three different encounters, but the relevant ones were still two, where Lutz has to carry the stalks back to the warehouse/river. The first one, when Maine was left unsupervised, they gathered only a handful of what was around, along with a few other wood samples; the second time, when the outbreak happened on its own, Maine and Lutz bought toronbe stalks from the other children, and Gunther got jealous because his toronbe log wasn't appreciated. For the record, the third time was when she gathered all the children for the Star Festival, I don't read raws, so i can't tell you how much was harvested, but I believe she threw three seeds before Lutz stopped her, though it could have been two.

I love how they dont shove the system specifics down our throat at the start but actually tell us it when the plot demands it.

I don't know how I feel about Myne not telling her mother about her life-threatening illness. Actually...I don't like it one bit. Why is the author not having this information reach any member of Myne's family?

Oof, one vaguely negative thought and she's on the friggin' floor. That "box" she was keeping the consuming in mentally is looser than a Dublin whore.

Hey mom and dad, I have a terminal illness people like us normally can't even get because it requires the innate ability for magic which usually only nobles have, so you can't even think of doing anything about it because you're practically speaking too far down the social ladder to have that kind of money. Enjoy this feeling of guilt you can't do anything about since I'm your daughter and you are incapable of helping me.

The only reason I could think of is that if she tell them, then she can't go out anymore. If she can't go out, then she can't do her work. No work > No money > Cannot buy cure > Death
