I know they are children it is just weird to think of children without supervision not doing anything stupid.

@welcome2atlantis
Isn't that just the thing?
They are not "humans" since they have not been forced into the contract (baptized).

@mahtan Children in this world are much more mature than kids in our 21th century. Remember that kids begin to work at age 7. And there were quite a few adults (that means 15 years+) among the priests / shrine maidens doing the cleaning too. Children being more mature is not just the Bookworm world. Even in our world, kids were way more mature at an early age in the past, as they just didn't have time to play. They had to help their parents to help the family survive.

Or were you talking about the under 7 years old kids left alone in the basement of the orphanage without supervision for more than a year? Those could barely move due to malnutrition, so they couldn't do anything stupid even if they wanted to...

Taking about the under 7 yo children, if you really think that they couldn't do anything stupid then you don't know children.
In their condition they would be eating insects and whatever they could put their hands on, there would be a lot of fights and other minor problems (like broken things and clothes being ripped).

I know they are more mature than children are nowadays but that doesn't change much when they have no supervision nor eduation and are left to act o instinct.

aw Delia...
kind of shedding light on why she's like this
Delia crying really reminded me of the scene in Detective Conan when Ai asks Conan why he couldn't save her sister

@mahtan well you should also consider that these children are probably living in fear if they don't do things right, they think that they might be sent back to live in a dark room with barely any food.
They were basically abandoned and neglected, which probably left them traumatized.

Take this statement with a grain of salt, but trauma will affect a child's mental age greatly. Either they grow up into deliquency or they mature faster than others. Sure, they'll probably act more childish they get comfortable, but honestly everyone does that anyway regardless of age.

@welcome2atlantis :
As harsh as it may sound, pre-baptism children aren't consider 'people' in the eye of society, because they aren't registered to be its citizen proper yet (the medal you put your blood on at baptism is exactly that)
This apply to the nobles as well so pre-baptism children generally aren't allowed to meet anyone outside their family.

@GoldenZeal :
It can't sprout on the white stone of the city so the lower city is pretty safe from surprise tronbe in that regard.
Also once it pop it seems to no longer be able to absorb magic seeing as Myne didn't start sprouting tentacles after getting pelted.

Not to mention it takes a LOT of magic power to sprout one, out of the lower city Myne is basically the only one who can do it (we get to see what reaction a 'normal' Consuming holding the fruit looks like later)

Oh yeah, it's not really a big issue considering 99% of the common people don´t have magic at all because they die or become slaves ( who would not take part in the festivities )
And I would have to agree with you that it seems unable to grow after its thrown ( something that is pretty odd for a "seed" as they usually want to spread as far as possible )

That said, I have only watched the anime and not read the manga, so I don´t know about the other person with the consuming you are talking about ( unless its the merchant girl )
So, by all means, do give me some more spoilers :)

@Goldenzeal : Sure
It's not really explained in series on 'why' the fruit are safe when broken like this, but it's magical plants so I wouldn't think too much about it (there's already Paru tree that YEET its fruit once it's ready and then immediately melt after) like maybe it just lose the ability to absorb magic (the thing that turn it into tronbe) after the juice is exposed to air.

I don't know how far the anime is, but since there's season 2 covering her time as blue miko, it should happen somewhere during it (unless they want to split arc 2 into 2 seasons...)
It's a new character with minor role overall.

Basically, it's a baby orphan that was left at the orphanage one day.
Delia immediately took a liking to the baby and become quite protective of it, the baby is named Dirk.
Then it was revealed the baby has Consuming, and during the star festival Myne have the orphans gather the fruits on the pretext of having them play the festival of the lower city in the temple.
But her real reason? tronbe farming (it's for their best selling paper after all, $$$) + for the baby to drain its excess magic.
Further spoiler from the above
Dirk is part of the finale event for arc 2.
Where the temple chief decide to invite a foreign noble to come and kidnap Myne away to get rid of her, he also promise Delia that the noble will also take care of Dirk (despite how much she's come to trust Myne, Delia still trust the temple chief too)
But then it was revealed that underneath the adoption contract Delia saw was actually slavery magic contract i.e. they lied to her and her baby brother isn't going to live as noble but as a slave.

Myne fought against the noble long enough for the cavalry (mainly the lord himself) to arrive and apprehend them.
The noble and temple chief immediately go "execute that commoner! She attacked nobles!"
And the lord play UNO reverse card on them "Actually, she is my adopted daughter now, meaning YOU attacked THE lord's daughter"
(he gave her a magic tool and tell her if shit hit the fan to activate it, it basically give the lord a legitimate reason to push the attackers instead of them getting away with 'noble vs commoner' reasoning)
So temple chief is executed for that crime, the noble get imprisoned and interrogated (he is still a noble from a stronger territory)
In the aftermath, Myne manage to talk the lord into not executing Delia for her part in the conspiracy, and the lord demands Myne be the one to give her a fitting punishment.

Myne then have the sentence for Delia be that she is to be confined to the orphanage, never be allowed to leave it ever (since it's a place of her trauma + never being allowed to leave means she can't go out to do attendant jobs)
Delia could read between the line (it means she can stay and take care of Dirk) and accept her punishment.

Then jump into much later in the story: After a LOT happened, one of Myne's ideas is to give the children of the traitorous nobles (they were sent to orphanage instead of execute because Myne argued that the children did no wrong, and in fact one of them betrayed his own parents to warn her of the plot) the chance to rejoin noble society, expand slightly into giving anyone with enough mana the chance.
Basically, any children at the orphanage can choose to take tests and if they pass they'll be adopted under the lord's name and send to magic school. One of the criteria is of course having enough magic power (the other topics were, amusingly, something Myne already educate her orphans anyway like reading/writing/calculation)
Dirk volunteered and passed (of the 3-4 tier of nobles designate by mana pool, he's mid-tier)
iirc some of the ex-noble children were fine remaining in the orphanage to become blue priest/ess

The revelation that he is leaving the orphanage CRUSHED Delia, who wanted to remain together.
But Dirk manage to convince her in the end, saying that right now they're ok, but they can't be sure if future orphanage director (Myne is leaving the territory after getting one of her own....) will be as kind to Delia given her criminal record.
So Dirk will go to the magic school, gain status of a 'real' noble, and return to take the position of orphanage director, so that this time he can be the one to protect her ( I believe he can make her his attendant since the orphanage director room is technically part of the orphanage)

@Xelda : If you want spoiler
It's the Star Festival aka marriage ceremony day where all the couples getting married go to the temple to get blessed/officially married.

In the lower city, all the people without partners would be tossing these water-filled fruits at all the couples (or anyone really) and the couples would race back from the temple to their new home while trying to avoid getting soaked.

Basically it's both 'congratulations lol' + 'die you riajuus' day. Virgin Venting day if you will.

And since Lutz was walking while holding Myne's hand would be viewed as "aww look at that cute childhood friends pair" by most people, obviously they got targeted.

The anime is half-way into Part 2. The third season (which has been announced but has no air date yet) will finish Part 2.
