im admittedly not an expert in history but I’ve never heard of a mid-ranked noble of any country getting a death penalty for scratching a priest. And it’d be even rarer for the entire family to be at risk for getting wiped out.

these nobles are way more bloodthirsty than most I’ve read about in history. Sure they’d usually kill commoners for petty reasons but it’d take a lot more than that to threaten wiping out a noble family. At most, I thought they’d maybe drop a rank, have to pay a huge fine, and deal with some house arrest, but these nobles go right for either murder or exiling people to the temple
Not for scratching a priest. Or even for causing another trombe to appear. For disobeying a direct order. They were told to keep Myne safe, Shittkozer hurt her instead. It wasn't just incompetence, it was deliberate disobedience. The difference in status would normally be enough to cause Shittkozer's whole family (and Damuel's, for that matter) to be executed.

Nice that they properly punished that trash~

Poor Myne... how old is she currently? How long has she still?

So it appears this is the last volume. Anyone know if the third part's translation is good? I seen that a few groups picked it and dropped it.

It's in moments like these Myne's true age and the tragedy of her character are brought to the forefront (that the anime ignored). She's lost a family once and fully understands what it means to be adopted by a noble family. No matter how old she actually is inside, anyone would have a reaction like that if told they have to leave their family, especially after everything she's been through to continue being part of that family.
"Myne true age" at this point, i'm quite sure that:

Option A: Urano's and Myne's mind merged together.

Option B: Myne's body in a biological way is slowing Urano.Be it due to Myne hormones, undeveloped brain capacity due to age, or another biological factor component.

Seriously, Urano line of tought in the beginning was about how her knowledge acquired from books and her passion for them could change her situation and those around her, she even set clear goals to try use her knowledge in an useful way like learning how to read.

Now ? Myne is acting in a naive way, having those adults around her make decisions for her, don't get me wrong, its wonderful that she have people in which she is able to rely on, however that is all what she does now, instead of using her "mature mentality" and try solving her own problems.

Schicoza incident for example, if she had threatned him with "i may not be a noble, however Ferdinand gave you a DIRECT ORDER to protect me, would you dare to disobey his orders to fulfill your own Ego during this military operation ?" and the problem would be solved, and due to Damuel acting on Ferdinand's orders he would have full authority to protect Myne from him too with such clarification if he were still too stupid to attack her.

Anyway, now look at Myne: "i didn't know he would be punished with Execution", i was like 'WTF??? How coudn't you not expect a Knight who disobeyed a DIRECT ORDER in the line of duty from a higher rank to not face such level of punishment on a nobility system ?'

The way the story is written out, the body seems to frequently have an influence on the mind here. I forget where we are in this manga since updates are so long between, but for instance,
Myne notes she never really had music talent in her old life as Urano but here she's picked up on it with surprising ease, as if Myne has a strong talent for music.
I can understand where you are coming from, and maybe.

I also have my own theories about Urano/Myne. I think she is the way she is because Urano was a stunted adult who loved reading and little else. (A bit of an ungrateful brat.) I think that Urano and Myne are in ways one and the same. Maybe Urano DID overide Myne... Then again, Maybe they are more 'merged'?

It is a curious circumstance and the only one who can figure that out DOES NOT want to be in her head again.

It doesn't matter how old you are, if you are confronted with a different culture, you will make mistakes that others would consider "childish." She isn't having the adults do things for her because she's a child, she's having the adults handle the situation because she isn't equipped to deal with them herself, not to mention every time she does act like an adult it incurs attention from those seeking to harm her. This chapter already explained bad people are harassing Lutz and seeking to harm Myne because of her adult knowledge introducing competition to the ink production market.

She isn't just put in situations where her being an adult can solve the problem, she is put in situations where her not being a noble or not having lived long enough to know the culture of this kingdom put her at a disadvantage or in mortal danger. In the case of Schicoza, that was the first time she had her life threatened and still had to deal with Franz and the other knight having their lives put in danger as well BECAUSE OF HER. An adult with no combat experience being faced with death for the very first time and put in such a vulnerable position obviously isn't going to think straight.

And yes, it seems naive of her to not consider the guy would be executed. However, she is a plebeian and all the punishments she's received so far for her mistakes in the temple were meant to correct her behavior, not harm (even though a few did cause harm to her). Plus, nobles have a tendency to protect each other and reduce their punishments in light of their noble status. Given that she is a plebeian, Franz a grey robe and the other knight was of a lower status, it isn't too farfetched to assume his punishment would be lightened by others superior to Ferdinand in command of the kingdom.

It may have been naive of her to not even consider the possibility of him being executed, but it's not unlikely that she would assume he WOULDN'T get that punishment.

As for your provided solution, it wouldn't work. Schicoza made statements about Ferdinand and his orders multiple times during the attack. He was fully aware that he was disregarding his superior's orders and he kept branding his rank as a higher noble around well aware that ranks among nobles are absolute. He just didn't care as long as he got to hurt Myne. It was just an emotional outburst on his part, and everything Myne did to appease his rage made things worse because he didn't care about right or wrong, he only cared about hurting her!

Oh I definitely won't argue that Urano was rather immature, there's a lot of truth in that.

Actually no, she'd still face the problem that as a high noble, her birth family would be people that could be used to hurt her.
Well, I'm speaking from a standpoint where she will have ungodly power so it'd be very difficult for people to tell her what to do at that point.

They would prefer not to kill him due to the mana shortage, but do understand the crimes he commited are not attacking a commoner, his crimes are:

Treason - intentionally attacking property of the archduke, forget Myne being a commoner think of her as an object that belongs to the king of the duchy

Breach of military orders - He was ordered by Arch dukes brother and the knight captain to protect her

Endangering the lives of the entire squad and the duchy - If the Tronbe sucked Mine dry, she has a crazy amount of mana, the Tronbe could have evolved into a huge threat putting many lives at risk. Not just from direct risk but indirect risk of the Tronbe sucking up all the land barren leaving them without food

And since they plan to make her the daughter of the knight captain, you can say his crime is also attacking an arch noble

How is that for crimes?

mynes not yet a noble so you can’t say he attacked a noble

treason seems a bit shaky as he didn’t intentionally attack her. He threatened her but she was only cut when she stood up suddenly and he had no idea she had enough mana to basically wipe out the duchy if it got absorbed, though I’ll definitely give you breach of military order. that could certainly lead to a death penalty for him though finding parallels to history is a bit hard as most nobles serving in the military were commanders, not rank and file soldiers.

oh and in terms of the mana shortage, this dude was not helping at all. There’s a reason he was left behind. He might’ve outranked Damuel but their mana levels were about equal

The backstory they plan for Myne is that she was the daughter of the commanders 3rd wife who died. So she is already a noble without Myne realizing it. They are just using her to catch a bigger fish

You took a knife out and pointed it at her, thats treason. Because again she belongs to the archduke. You pointed your weapon at Archdukes property. And considering how much mana she has, she is very valuable property. He also dragged her by the hair

Valuable enough that the archduke adoptes her as his adopted daughter. At one point Fernand states she has more mana than the archduke himself

It isnt his job to know or not know things, he was given orders to protect it. If you dont know its a bomb and you set it on fire, can you really claim you shouldnt be punished cause you didnt know? If you dont know dont touch

If a commander was given a job to protect something and he instead attacked it himself, he and his family would get executed. This is at the level of intentionally sabotaging yout mission and most would treat it as treason

The mana shortage is so large they will take everything they can get. Even a little mana and having that sceptor is a big thing

seriously, and she was already a young adult in her previous life, even if her common sense was shit, she was someone that must have known some bits of history and how nobles and royals like to "solve things" even if her being young, mess with her capacity to control emotions, it shouldn't make her uncapable of thinking about the consequences of her actions if she took the time to think.
It is quite late, but tbf, Japan tends to have quite the pacifistic outlook on things now, compared to their earlier history. It's one thing knowing how things were dealt with in the past, but experiencing it, while you still hold to your views on it is vastly different. It wouldn't really hit you until you wind up face to face with it yourself.

I forgot that Ferdinant concern is not so much that Mayne will just die, but if they bad people where to be allowed to do as they please to Mayne, her magic will go out of control and the capital will disappear
