Wait, why is Hori bad at cooking? She basically cook for her brother everyday in first arc. Did author gone dementia or something?

Yeah, but she's always been depicted as bad with baking sweets. She has lots of experience with cooking actual meals, but absolutely none with desserts, and it's been used as the butt of jokes from relatively early on in the manga.
