You guys gotta understand that in Japanese this kind of thing is much easier to misunderstand since they often don't bother including a subject or object. She probably just said "Suki-desu" which just means "like" and you have to infer what she might be talking about from context

I was not expecting her to confess, and now she is trying to hide it.

I know that native speakers drop the subject of a sentence. Why? It seems like it would lead to a lot of misunderstandings.
Most of the time it’s not necessary because context makes it clear who you’re referring to and it makes speech more efficient since you can convey the same thing in fewer words. We do it in English too sometimes, especially colloquially like “Wanna go?” “Don’t feel like it” . It’s just that in Japanese they always do it, and it’s the standard rather than slang.

Confession baits and misunderstandings are the lowest of the low. If you're starting to write them as an author, stop and start considering retirement. Like this shit would never happen in reality, NO ONE is that dense, so it only annoys the readers and serves literally no purpose.
And no, writing "Is this a teenage manga or something...?" in the next panel does not erase the fact that you wrote a garbage scene. This is bad to the point where I'm considering dropping this just because of it, because there's no guarantee the author won't do this shit again.

"Is this a teenage manga?"

Wow a development and an existential crisis moment

Read so many cliché like this in romcoms, but this might be the worst one I’ve seen so far 😭 Like, how dense can you be to not catch that super obvious confession… I know he might’ve misunderstood because Japanese language moment, but the fact that he’s a self-depreciating, dense as a rock dude still remains true. I just hope this manga gets better in the upcoming chapters, cuz this ain’t it mane..
