yay, she's named Skrell again!
she went through so many name changes each time the first adaptation was getting tl'd by a different group.

and yes, I also prefer the old art. This one looks like it wants to go into a more chibi direction

art is fine, honestly. just different, but it looks ok
as for the story, there's minor differences, same for the tone. but still the same general plot

hopefully this wont get axed

I don't remember the elf girl being a slave in the original. Wasn't she just a higher ranked solo adventurer? She was also closest to being the main girl, since he even brought her over to his world for a few days if I'm not mistaken.

she was a slave
but her slave status was resolved in chp1, so might as well never have been one in the grand scheme of the narrative

praying i don’t get blueballed and get hit with the “no more manga for you go read the light novel” treatment

Yeah, I went back to re-read it again, and yeah, the first chapter is basically this one...but with better art.

I think the art quality is fine. I haven’t read the first adaptation but I skimmed the first chapter, and this just seems different, not bad. It is definitely more similar to the light novel’s illustrations though, which goes for a more cute/chibi look. J-Novel Club’s preview of the first volume on their site has two illustrations if you’re curious about that comparison.

That being said, I’ll admit I just like this style of art. 90% of the reason I read the light novels was because I found the covers super charming. So I’ll be cautiously optimistic about this for now, especially since the few pages of combat were drawn a bit more “maturely” than the cute interactions that came after

I can understand calling it inferior artsyle (which is subjective) but I don't see how this art is inferior. I read both chapter 1 and this one has more close up to the character and the characters are more expressive with their gesture and face.

In the comment section for the final chapter of the other adaptation, someone mentioned that the previous artist was probably only contracted for a short term LN promotion manga. So they may have opted for a full reboot with a new artist for a more traditional production.

I can see people complain when other artists take over a property and the art work changes enough to cause complaints. For example, Tensei Ouji wa Daraketai had a School Arc adaptation, and the SL dropped it after not vibing with the new artist/art. And I took a look at it and yeah, it turned me off reading further. Maybe they just wanted to start fresh, with a new artist/style so people wouldn't complain about the continuity.

hot take this chapter 1 is a better chapter 1 than the previous adaptation with more show than tell to get the gist of the setting across. it's crazy how the word count for this chapter is probably about half of how much exposition was laid in the previous adaptation. while the previous art style aimed for more detail i think the tone of the story syncs better with the style too— it wants to be more lighthearted. the light novel covers seem to also aim for this style.

the art style has a lot more resolve and confidence with itself, while the previous one was more rough around the edges. again, kunikune (the actual manga artist for this, looking them up they're talented af) does seem more in line with flat_fish's artstyle that's done for the light novel anyways.

ok so most of y'all here are saying the serialization before this one has good art so luckily the chapters are still around so I've decided to give it a run-through and these are MY honest personal opinion.

compared to the first chapter of the original series, this rebooted version feels more digestible to me. If you examine the volume and placement of speech bubbles in the original's chapter 1, they truly overwhelm the entire page. I found myself focusing mostly on reading the dialogues and barely glancing at the artwork on some pages. In contrast, the rebooted version features far less dialogue, with bubbles neatly tucked into the panels, resulting in an arranged and clean layout that makes every page easy to read.

as for the art style, I believe it's a subjective matter, but if I had to choose one, I'd go with the rebooted version due to its consistent drawing across every aspect from character silhouettes and line weights to proportions and so on. The character designs are simple, cute, and clean, and I love how expressive the characters are on every single page.

I'm throwing no hate on the OG serialization 🙏 but this one cooks with the right ingredients and I'm looking forward for more.
