Oh look like the Managa's actually gonna eventually touch on 'That Time' with the previous Queen and King..... Honestly I've been kinda hoping they'd just drop that from Manga adaptation to simplify things.... that stuff is more complicated then it needs to be.

'That Time'
What the fuck is 'that time'
why do the Japanese have to make everything so vague.
(this is a joke.)

Someone confiscate the royal clothes from the ex-King, it's getting confusing.

Edit: I'm guessing "That Time" refers to an original successor, who happened to get assassinated before he could make changes to save the country.

Here's the spoilers for the Queen and 'That Time'

The queen has the ability to send her memories back in time, which is how she chose her current husband after trying numerous times to prevent a civil war and her death. In this current timeline she used her powers to convince the king to give up his spot to Kazuya. In the previous timeline, Kazuya was made the prime minister, but he didn't have enough power as a prime minister to enact the sweeping changes he did. The nobles then conspired to get him out of the country, and he and Lisia leave the country. The war with Amidonia goes different and the queen sends her memories back when the castle is set on fire as it looks like she will die in the fire.

This is now spoilers for the continuation of 'That Time'
However, Kazuya comes and rescues her and they live on. That's the extent of what we know for that timeline for now.

Spoilers about that time

Essentially queen has the ability to send her mind back in time. That time means a different future where instead of making our summoned hero a king they made him an advisor which makes more sense if you think about it. But in the end nobles deceived the king , made if hard to implement changes and country went to shit which forced queen to send her mind back and explain it all to current king. King then decided to give the crown to hero as he thought he would be deceived again and that if he is the king the summoned hero would need his approval for everything. It essentially answers why they didnt make him an advisor and instead made him a king question in a satisfying way.

Sooooo.....

The queen has Dark Magic, I forget how much detail the Manga got into about the magic elements..... but ultimately dark magic just means 'Didn't fall into any of the other elements'.

So The queens Magical power is to send her (and at least one other, I'm fussy on the exact details) memories to a past version of her self in a alternate timeline..... and she can only do it once, specifically during a situation where she is dying or about to die.

So yeah, the explanation of all of it gets really confuted and ALOT of Young Queens died.... but short version is "That Time" is talking about the the previous timeline. Basically during the previous go the King Albert only made Souma the Prime Minister, and things didn't go well. The Kingdom's corrupt nobles opposed EVERYTHING Souma tired to do and eventually it ALL went to Shit and Souma and Licia died alongside Duke Carmine.....

Part of the reason they immediately engaged Licia to Souma was that the two had gotten together in the previous timeline as well.

Which is why A) Albert immediately made Souma king. And B) why Carmine did his rebellion. Albert told Carmine everything about what happened in the previous timeline, so Carmine made the decision to gather all the Corrupt nobles to his side and sacrifice himself to take them down before they could cause any real harm.

Though MUCH later the Novels actually cut back to the Previous Timeline and the final moments of the that King and Queen.... to reveal that Souma and Licia actually survived. Carmine gave his life so they could escape the burning city of Randel when the corrupt nobles razed it.

Souma escaped the Kingdom.... met Dragon Wifu that will also get introduced later... and made it back to the capital to save the King and Queen. With a touching moment of the Queen being the first 'version' of herself to survive and get a happy ending.

"Don't worry, we're basically surrounded and protected by the elite squad from the navy right now"

Translation according to all the arrows on the panel: "Don't worry, we have murdered everyone in town and replaced them with a shitton of navy seals dressed like old men, hobos, housewives, and bystanders"

"Don't worry, the navy has tested them" (Talking about the skewers)

Translation: "When we murdered all the foodstand cooks in this area and gave their jobs to Poncho, we made sure not to put poison in the food, just in case you came this way after leaving the store"
