my b for double posting but

honestly, i liked that touch bc irl not everyone gets their happy ending and some people just live with regrets for some time.
Incrível que todos citam "vida real", como se isso fosse um mérito, e não, não é um mérito, pra você pode até ser, mas definitivamente não é

never said a realistic outcome was particularly a merit, I just liked it because it was an interesting take.

Realismo... Sim, a vida é um mar radioativa.... Muito realista.... Cof cof drama barato cof cof
There's an endless amount of yuri slop out there that's all fluff with no drama, no messy relationships. No need to keep being salty about one that does!

Does this series follow the same route as the oneshot ? If it does it's not worth anyone's time aside from masochists, people that love to waste time, and people that like misery.
Man I was honestly rooting for Sae and Miza to actually work their shit out and it seemed to be going that up to chapter 35 and then there is the huge fucking gap in translations and then in 81 she is with her middle school crush. Took the series from a 8 or 9 out of 10 to a 3 for me

You didn't just completely change your opinion while skipping 1\3 of the whole manga' length, did you?

Website that rhymes with "potato" has all the chapters if you'd want to read and know what actually happened before doing 180.

Oh yeah... Sometimes I think - maybe it's better not to open comments section at all...

Anyway

The manga itself is really good.
If you are ready for an emotional rollercoaster steep both ways. It will be pleasant and good and will also hurt real bad.
Not so many erotic scenes going on, so if you came here only for that might go on looking for something else.

With that out of the way...

Characters interactions do feel real, most of their actions make sense and when someone is acting on emotions you can totally understand where that comes from.
Yeah, the story isn't all fluff and candy floss, some moments are hard to read if you have at least some empathy towards the characters. As I can see from the comments this aspect repelled many people from reading this. For me it was a pleasant contrast, it made me feel different things and event heavy moments weren't unpleasant to read.
Characters aren't just a generic crowd, they all have personalities and their own growth along the story, they learn to communicate and better understand each other, overcome conflicts and find compromises.
The pacing is just in the right spot, the events covered don't feel dragged out and don't feel too fast too.
This manga raises up many topics such as public opinions about being different, acceptance by others, importance of communication and even touches the topic of sexual compatibility and it's importance.

If nothing else, the girl she's with in chapter 81 is an entirely different character from her middle school crush, one that got introduced somewhere in those 46 chapters you missed, so if ending up with Shiho is what's putting you off, you've just straight up got the wrong impression thanks to skipping more chapters than you read. Tamaki just looks similar, which only ends up mattering because it's what draws Miwa's attention to her in the first place. The series does still consist of Sae and Miwa working their shit out. They just aren't together for that entire process because sometimes that's just the nature of learning how to relationship.

Very very close to one of the best manga i've ever read, this is some Anna Karenina, Tolstoy level of character writing, cried like a baby in some of the chapters. One of those rare all-encompassing works of art that make you believe the author has been through 10 lives.
A quote from Yi Yi which sums up my feeling about this manga:
  • Pangzi: Life is a mixture of happy and sad things. Movies are so lifelike - that's why we love them.
  • Ting-Ting: Then who needs movies? Just stay home and live life.
  • Pangzi: My uncle says we live three times as long since man invented movies.
  • Ting-Ting: How can that be?
  • Pangzi: It means movies give us twice what we get from daily life.
I could probably muster out some criticisms about this manga but it feels unnecessary, this work is really good, please read it.

My only criticisms would be:

1. Kan as a character was wasted. He got some spot light for like a whole volume but nothing significant after that.

2. The chapter 50, where Sae and Miwa JUST sorted out the fwb issue. Then a time skip, followed by them both looking good and Miwa even excited to hear about Sae's new gf.
While in-universe, that's normal. But for the READERS, that's such a fucking whiplash of mood. Just earlier they were all fucking and being sad, now happi happi. A one-chapter buffer would've been nice.

I'm still mad about how this manga keeps flying under the radar, even in GL circles, because itself is a great romance.
I don't personally read a lot of GL, but at least couple of the most recommended ones like Bloom into You, which was too idealized and feel-good for me.
I thought HDWR is too negative for many readers, but they also recommend mangas like Even if We're Adults and some blatant toxic yuri.
I think the romance genre as a whole, straight or not, seriously lacks works like HDWR.

@tabedetam completely different in genre but my very favorite (on-going) yuri is The Blue Star on That Day, it's idealized but very authentic, where it feels like you're peering into a world rather than just a story
