Also, if you're talking about Anime and manga and media in general, it's probably because a lot of media romanticizes gay relationships as being more wholesome, communicative, and emotionally fulfilling compared to straight ones, which are often written with unnecessary drama. In reality, relationships- gay or straight aren't inherently perfect, they just depend on the people involved. You’re just seeing the good parts more often.

Well, from a purely biological perspective, a gay couple means two less available mates for you without them taking any of your competition out of the game.
Meanwhile a Lesbian couple would take out two competitors without removing any potential mate.
Vice Versa for the men.
The ideal evolutionary strategy would be to encourage homosexuality among your own gender while discouraging it among the other gender.
The irony be that Yuri is enjoyed by heterosexual men and Yaoi by heterosexual women in reality, so the purely biological model is unlikely to play an actual role
