I'd say there are a couple key differences making that comparison:
1) That was a crescendo of 9 chapters that were probably all about 20 pages each, comparing here to 7 at 4 pages a piece.
2) Aka Akasaka being in the midst of Kaguya-sama had a lot more starting credibility to be able to do that with intent to affect the narrative. The fact that the series is still going and that he also has another new authorship speaks to that.

I still can't believe the author did this & not a fake out like I was hoping. If you look at the rating score for this, people are really mad about it & rightfully so. I don't recall anything recent for a title to do something like this besides Gal Cleaning & that destroyed the author's credibility. The only positive thing I can say about this chapter is that she will live because of the child she has in her. Thanks for the translations.

This feels a bit more tasteful than Gal Cleaning. Like there's a message to this story. I read the raws so at first I was also fucked up by this twist and hated it, but over time I was able to sort my feelings and see it more objectively. As someone who avoids the tragedy tag it is good to be surprised once in a while, because reality is really like that.

A really close uncle of mine died last year, I got a call form my mother in the morning right after I had pulled an all-nighter playing videogames with friends and having a good time. It was so sudden that even though he was really close to us, when my mother kept saying his name over the phone and telling me he died I couldn't remember who she was talking about. Like, my mind literally could not process him being dead, I would rather not associate his name with him than associate death with him. This feels really similar to being hit by that news.
