Oh her going "Actually, Fuck This." makes me terribly happy. Also being smart enough to send out her maid to shake down info...

I guess the ultimate love of a plate of fruits given by an asian mom can't always solve everything.

Yeah, you go girl. Abuse fucking sucks and indeed, you can really never truly forgive it.

This is one of the most realistic perspective on this matter I have seen. I suspect the author or someone he knows has gone through this.

You don't really get the circumstances and perspective of someone that has gone through abuse unless you have experienced it yourself.

Emphasise and imagine to some level? Sure, but you will fundamentally subconsciously try to create some compromise ground between the parties (or go to either extremes). But it isn't such a simple thing, it is a complex web of emotions, raw feelings, ingrained habits, thought processes and so on.

@Elmithian The part about having to see them hit hard. I can't forgive mine either, but I still need them to sign papers, and I'm screwed if they don't. Abusive parents tend to be really fickle with their kids and they'll explode regardless but trying to kiss ass so you can delay it is something that becomes natural. We smile and laugh but it makes me sick that I have to be cordial when I really want to just never see or hear of them again. The way they talk about it in this chapter is really good, but I'm not sure how the OG author of the book that she's living in thought that this is something that could be forgotten and forgiven.

The absolute horror of what both of them went through is something I can only feel sorrow for.

But honestly, her maid flashing the bling like that killed me. XD

Damnit countess! The cane is a tool to enforce discipline, yes, but you don't actually hit the kid until he spills enough blood to make the bucket red. It's not even supposed to break skin. What kind evil did the boy do to deserve Starship Trooper-esque punishment?

I like the authors take on abuse.. you cant overwrite trauma or forget about it easily.

I can't wait for her to tell the counttess to gtfo

Ouch, yeah..
I relate to the MC's thoughts so much on the trauma. 🥲

Sometimes you say that you've forgiven your parents or treat it like that never happened to begin with, but in the back of your mind you know it yourself that it wasn't right.
Trying to justify their abuse was also a thing in it if itself, like maybe they were raised like that too, so they're using their childhood as a reference for educating their kids.

Even if they turn around and say that they love and care about you while showing it in their behavior, but they've been spewing toxic comments and done abusive actions in their past and present, it's hard to reply to both statements because of the subconscious grudge your body holds against them.

It's one of the reasons why I don't want kids, since I'm not sure how I'll treat them if my psyche gets strained. 🤐
