I think you all are really down playing the Empress. I know she is the big bad, but her thoughts on Tia dad being the next in line, is based on all the success he has been having, PLUS the fact that Tia is his daughter.

Granted we all know who will really take over the family in the end, but it's not out of the question for the head to follow the male lineage.

Look, I hate the Empress as much as the next person, and her down fall will be amazing when it happens, trust me.

But we need to give her, her dues. She is a good rival to Tia, and she really makes the story work. Cause withbout her, who is the villain? Her husband? Dude is a sack a rocks that is easily won over by a few nice words.

Grandpa alone stomps the Emperor, and has shown countless times that with him, this empire ain't shit.

Just saying. Gove Empress her flowers, she is playing her role nicely.

The empress is really dumb. She probably doesn't even think about the fact that Lombardi is merit driven and not tied by tradition. She probably doesn't even consider that women are allowed to be the heir. Otherwise it'd actually have been pretty obvious a while back that Tia is likely to inherit it, and thus if skipping a generation isn't allowed Gallahan would get it.

I might be reading your intent wrong, but doesn't this make her guess not entirely dumb? Like, if we go by your logic ("Tia is likely to inherit it" plus "if skipping a generation isn't allowed Gallahan"), and Shannet is being presented as the obvious choice, the fact that Gallahan is being considered rather than Shannet means she sees Tia as the eventual successor (with Gallahan being the stopgap generation)?
Ofc, I don't believe she's thinking that cleverly and rather is just assuming based on how well Gallahan's business is doing (which, again, technically hits the "thinking about merit" checkbox but its also a bit of both columns). However, when you take into account everything, either of them could genuinely be considered a the logical successor depending on your thought process.

There's a manhwa I was reading (forgot the name, it stopped updating sometime last year) where they had a special "end of season" episode where the entire main manhwa is "revealed" as a tv show in-universe (so that they can do a Q/A about the characters), with the various characters being actors and actresses, and the lady acting as the evil mother was being fangirled by the FMC and her sister for being so good at acting as a villainess (I've since taken that chapter as the canon "reality" of that series). Your comment make me wanna headcanon something similar for this series.

I think she makes Tia a better character, cause it gives Tia a drive to want to outsmart and make her look stupid.

The Empress seemed way worse in the LN, but man, still love her here.

If I was the Empress, and I was thinking of who was next in line, and I seen the young, strapping, up and coming Gallagan... the SINGLE heir... Yeah, I'm placing my money there to try and get someone on his arm and in his ear.
