Indeed. From the look on his face, I wonder if "Bro" is about to do so… which would be extremely rich.

I still say a true "brother" who knows his sister is being tormented by his mother offers her a place to stay. At the very least, he would do so after she runs away. Someone who gives her a bunch of money to get her to go away somewhere, so he can keep using her as a tool in his power plays against his mother, isn't a true brother.

And someone who does nothing despite knowing she's run out of money and has to become a sex worker to live? That's a true piece of :poop:
Well story wise the whole, "here have money and stay in hotel" is odd yes, then again the thinking was that she would contact her brother when the money ran out. She didn't do that and ran and dumped her phone. Also he didn't help because of power play. He wanted to give her some breathing room from their oh so nice mom...yeeaaah. 😑

I have no idea what the living status of her brother is though. It's not clear if he's married or if he lives with his mom (which in japanese culture isn't that strange if you are not in a relationship/married). So it's not clear why he didn't let her stay with him.

He was looking for her so the whole doing nothing is just not true. Did it take a bit to long? Sure but he needed to find her first. Bit difficult if the sister doesn't make contact.

She had the bad luck of having a mentally unstable mom that just didn't want her and made it clear. That was on of the reason she didn't want to go home.

Four chapters ago in chapter 48, page 6: "My brother took the time to come to the house every day, so that he could comfort my hysteric mum. When he came, he also came to check up on me." So no, he wasn't staying with them.
And even if he had a wife who hated Sayu and wouldn't let her stay with them, he could have found her an apartment for the kind of money he gave her to stay in hotels. But neither of those would have played well with their mother, so he gave her money to keep his "plausible deniability".

As Sayu said long enough ago that I'm not going to hunt it down, if he was seriously looking for her there was no way he wouldn't find her. And how did he know she'd run out of money and was having to work as a sex worker to live (as we just covered in this chapter) if he had no idea where she was?

I agreed to disagree. ;)

Do you have any idea how difficult it is to find someone? I mean really? He didn't contact the police so he had to do it on his own. (or P.I.) anyways, it doesn't really matter who is right it's fiction. Though I find it great we can talk about this piece of fiction in these forum. (y)

Then again next chapter the brother will explain it if I remember correctly. (can't remember the anime that much so could be wrong)

Why would he sign a lease for her over a fight between her and their mother? He thought Sayu would cool off and come back home. He knows how his mother is and still sticks around. He plays the part of a good son and thought Sayu would eventually go back to the abuse and playing a good daughter until she graduated high school.

He didn't predict that she would run away because his own sense of familial duty is so strong.

My guess is would he had done the same if Sayu was not cute?
He says otherwise, but there's another way to look at it besides through the filter of self-loathing.

His heart rebels against the notion that a kid who has no home to go to should have to become a sex worker to live, because otherwise society will condemn and perhaps even imprison him for trying to help her. But he's still afraid of the consequences, as is the nature of humanity. The fact that she's cute startles him (because it's also the nature of humanity to think cute = good-hearted) into questioning his just-world fallacy (extremely human) and realizing that no, she doesn't "deserve" it.

I'm glad Yoshidas finally being straight with how he feels. His reasons for helping Sayu were partly selfish and he probably craved the affection he got from her and tried to hide it. Hes not as cool or upright as he tells himself. He wanted to please the cute high school girl and now hes edging on romantic involvement with her. Impure thoughts lead to an impure outcome.

how many chapters till end? I wanted to read this manga since anime adaptation, manga looks good enought imo so I didn't want to go into LN, but dude this is only 5 volumes how it's still not finished after 3 years. It is still not finished in Japanese too?
Btw anime is kind of butchered right, I didn't watch it but it seems that the story was finished in anime so I guess it's not worth it.

So are you telling me there wouldn't be a story if the female lead isn't cute?

Ok I appreciate that you had an ulterior motive because "I thought she was cute" but the fact that's literally where that ulterior motive started and ended is the very important part you yourself are ignoring
