People that talk about Sundome having an unsatisfying ending after THIS are actually out of their minds. This ending is IMMENSELY depressing:
Madoka never got to witness for the finishing touches of the doll nor see the doll nor show what has happened to her face nor EVER once in the story share with Kakiguchi what she felt or experienced throughout their time together and instead is killed by the fuckboi the story abandoned after he was off-screen ejected from school, literally one stop away from seeing Kakiguchi again.
Kakiguchi is left severed from the one bit of comfortable human emotion-to-skin connection that he has had in years with an incomplete and currently degrading doll representing what he thinks is her abandonment of him, without a job that allowed him both income and sexual outlet, and without the house from his grandfather which he fled from as the result of being raped and sexually abused by a man yet still recognizable enough to be tracked down via a video posted online of that act thus leaving him homeless as far as we know wandering the train stations.
Both of them flawed, damaged, deviant people who out of millions managed to find one another and their massive fault was only in just being steps away from honest and clearly defined communication by the end. That’s one of the major themes though right? Even though their bodies and fetishes and perversions are honest, the words that they encaseed them in and bookended them by were themselves half of the actual truth. But in the end: dolls don’t speak, and neither can the dead.
