One of the worst attempts from an author to fix a terrible ending and calm a fanbase.

Ichigo 100%'s ending makes perfect sense and the story points that way the whole time, it just isn't in your face obvious. The MC and the end girl get closer as the story goes on
Code:
(it is even heavily implied they have sex.)
If you missed that, then you should go back and read it again, really.

@Bladestone - It's not that people don't "get" the ending. It's that people don't LIKE the ending.

As for this side story -- What was the point exactly? To let us know that Toujo is completely broken and still swooning for someone she can't have? So she's desperate enough to seek someone identical to compensate?

Awesome....?

@Bladestone, I agree, unfortunately a lot are just too distracted by unrequited love. This pretty much happens with every romance; people have to understand that just because they sympathize with a character it does not make them the ideal partner for the main character.

As for this sequel... it was pointless and I thought it did Toujou's character a disservice. Her character was already fine at the end of the main series.

@auriga - Right?! I felt like Toujo was in a good place at the end. This completely screws that and then just ends. Really?

But doesnt the last chapter take place 4 years after graduation? So in the end even this Namaka (Or whatever his name is) guy doesn't even matter?

@Happily_Grim: Kawashita pretty much put Toujou in a funk for the sake of it and in the process just created more loose ends when there were none in the first place. I'd rather she had just done an episodic slice-of-life set during their high school days.

But... I dunno. No offense to the translator, but the spotty grammar in the last chapter makes me think something got lost in the translation. I doubt it's something monumental, though.

Well when people start commenting on the ending being terrible, ruining the story, etc... I don't really see that as someone who really understood what was going on.

------

I really liked Aya and I liked the unrequited love + guy noticing the glasses girl/person on the inside aspect of their relationship, but that wasn't the real story.

Ichigo100% is the ultimate "the diligent girl and not the mysterious beauty won" story. For all of the manga we get where the MC suddenly notices a troublesome hot girl in class and chases her around while ignoring the underdog "childhood friend", Ichigo100 gave us one where the underdog worked her butt off and ultimately won. That's the beauty of Ichigo100, on the surface it presents you with one girl as the hot beauty that captures the MC and interferes with him being with the nice regular girl, but in actuality if you are paying attention, the rolls of the girls are actually the opposite of what is shown on the surface.

Nishino is probably the most focused and diligent heroine of all romance mangas, even to the point of being unrealistically loyal. The story isn't about Junpei finding about Aya's outer beauty, it is about him finding about Nishino's inner beauty.

"the underdog childhood friend"? Tsukasa was the one Manaka was in love with from the beginning, she was extremely ahead; she's not a childhood friend, not a underdog, not a normal girl, she's the ****** "super-hot-and-popular-too-perfect-to-be-real" girl.
What? She's loyal, focused and diligent? She dumped Manaka and disappeared for a bunck of time.
I don't hate her, but you can't tell me that she was the obvious choice.
I don't even say that she couldn't be the final girl, the real problem is that just before the final, the story was filled with Tojo-oriented elements. That's why we take it out on the author, if the ending was consistent, we would just say "I don't like the pairing, too bad".

No, the story is about Junpei which relates to his multiple romantic feelings (and it's perfect in this).

Btw, this sequel is simply unworthy. It's mean towards Aya (and not just her).

Nishino wasn't the one Junpei was in love with from the beginning. He fell in love with the "strawberry panties" girl (Aya in hot mode) and thought Nishino being the school idol was her. Later he finds out Aya was that girl and from then on he was crushing on Aya. Nishino wasn't the perfect hot girl, she was only that on the surface and that is the one of the major points of the manga. Both Aya and Nishino were seen as unreachable beauties to Junpei, but they both were just normal girls in reality. Here is the difference though, Nishino knew Junpei lacked confidence and all of their chapters together are about her showing him she was just a regular girl, helping him learn, or making sure she cleared up any misunderstandings between them. She dismissed all of Junpei's rivals for her and made it crystal clear to him she wasn't interested in them. Aya on the other hand never did that and continued unknowingly being the girl on the pedestal to Junpei. Only the reader knows she is the shy bookworm she really is. This is where the story is actually the reverse of what people think it is. Nishino is indeed presented as the popular school idol girl and Aya the shy bookworm. But the reality is Aya is the untouchable girl that Junpei is enamored with while Nishino is the one in the trenches working hard. For almost the entire manga Nishino tries to shed that "too perfect" image while Aya doesn't even realize that is how everyone sees her.

Also, Nishino didn't disappear, she went to another school so Junpei could get into the school he wanted to. If you actually count the appearances between the girls (Aya and Nishino), I mean literally counting the chapters focused on them they are pretty equal. The main difference is the Nishino chapters are mostly relationship building things while Aya's chapters have a lot of "almost" emotional scenes. Seriously give it a re-read and write down what Nishino and Aya do to impact their relationship with Junpei. Nishino's are all subtle growth and Aya's are mostly missed/wasted opportunities. This is part of the magic of the story, it presents a lot of flashy stuff for Aya and Nishino's stuff is a lot more subtle. Heck people missed the implied hookup between Nishino and Junpei. Yes sex is only implied/hinted at, so one can't say for sure of course. Probably as far as one could take it at the time in the magazine.

Nishino is purposely low-key, obviously for the ending, but it is 100% built into the story right from the start.

Oh my, so many years has passed, my memory betrays me :p
I really should read it again... (if only I had the time °A°)

But I clearly remember, at the time I thought the ending didn't work.
And I remember that Junpei matures a lot during the opera, so your first speech, I don't know how much is valid.

Oh I've forgotten stuff too, but I debated this so much in the past I still remember plenty. I think people just got hooked into the Aya + Junpei paring because the story does a good job of selling them with in your face events all while developing Junpei and Nishino and the background in a more mundane way. Trust me it was done on purpose, so if you do get a chance to re-read it, just keep an open mind and pay attention to the little details.

The biggest missed opportunity was actually Satsuki IMO. She started out as a sort of "bro" or buddy to Junpei that liked the same games and stuff but didn't know how to translate that into becoming a girlfriend so she tried to tempt him. She then is kinda just relegated to being a temptress and conspiring with that guy tying to get with Aya. A lot of missed opportunity there.

Wow... I was totally open to this idea but this is so dumb it's hard to take seriously. Kinda makes me feel/think what the point was? If it was to give Aya a happy ending, this just feels lazy and dumb. If it was to appease people who didn't like the ending, would have been better to just write an alternate ending.

I think what this turned out to be doesn't do a good job at either. Doesn't really do anything for Aya fans, and feels more it takes away from Aya as a character.

Well, that was short and kind of an interesting scenario. I mean seriously, not only does the guy look like Manaka, but he's also friends with an octopus looking guy? What are the odds lol.

I like how they all mention Manaka like a freaking curse though. Haven't seen him, haven't heard about him, and he's still haunting everyone, and even spreading to someone new lol.

I'd like to think that Nakama becomes a pretty popular writer in a few years and ends up together with Toujou, like how Manaka and Nishino part ways to better themselves before starting the relationship again.

It's really funny seeing Satsuki go all horn-dog on the poor kid. I mean the sight of a crazed chick taking off her leggings must be somewhat traumatizing no matter how hot she is lol.

Overall, it's a pretty good read in terms of giving us a peek into what the main girls thinksof Manaka during the 5 year time skip
