He is a special level of Idiot but for other reasons.

The school would normaly force the spectators to leave since they are against one participant which forces a great amount of stress on the participant who gets hated.
This stress would change his abilities to fight to the best in his duel. Therefore, it would give the opponent an advantage, which is prohibited.
Thats why he was amazed that the teacher did nothing.
The school wanted him out of school since he had no talent.

In the novel its better explained.

Yes. You're exactly right. He goes absolutely insane... moreso by the 8th or 9th time he pushes the button, cause every time he leaves he forgets about the hell that awaits him in the button world. So what ends up happening is out of desperation he attacks the world itself, which is the only way he can get out, and is the reason why he's unconscious afterwards -- and why the button was cut in half. He literally practiced for 1 billion years until he was able to cut through reality itself and escape the pocket dimension.

IIRC, dude spent x10 times as originally intended but his attitude/character is so shit he has a hard time beating shitters around him. Dude reminds me of early Holyland/Suicide island. Terrible writing as usual from these type of stories.

First, he hasn't gone insane yet after billions of years of training (God knows how many times he pressed the button) and EVEN FUCKING GOD would gone insane if he spend billions of years in a room like that just doing 1 single thing which is training. Well maybe, this "chapter" is just his imagination because of the fact that he trains for billions of years or just dream because of the first page showing him that he is sleeping outside the time chamber (Which is a pretty common sign of "lucid dreaming" shit in anime/manga) meanwhile in reality he still need to complete his hundreds of millions of years of training first to finally get out and beat the shit out of him again.
