Couldn't reveal its power, it's too powerful to fully manifest for a child, she would die of the magic loss, and after what her father did to her, she was left with a trauma about Fire, so the chick held its power back further. It's only after she started breaking down these barriers that the thing was even able to show a weaker form, wall's down now.

He brings up dying together and blaming Yuri for the fires in the LN as well. He does poked by that contract breaker, but it’s by his spirits manipulating the surroundings or his arm so he pokes himself. They were over his shit and wanted nothing to do with him.
