@sirflimflam no it really isn't racist and why would it be they don't know american history over there and to them the color of skin is just a color. In reality white skin color over there means you take care of your skin. That is literally the extent of it you will be hard pressed to find an asian woman over the age of 20 with a tan. If they wanted it to be a thing about race it would have been painfully obvious as it is whenever its a thing. Japan isn't interested in politically correctness its a well known fact if it was meant to be about race it would have been painfully obvious.

People seem to be really misinterpreting the ridiculous events next chapter.
I mean it's silly as hell to change her skin color but it's not racial stigma she bore in the first place. Her complexion was from her bond with the dark spirit king and the prejudice was from legends and superstition. The series also doesn't treat it like she got a good thing.

Not really, no, it's like, Not as "Black and White" as it is in American ,but it's also an issue in Asia to the point that it's actually breeding ignorance.

Like, Asia has enough obsession behind whiteness/stigmatization behind being darker skinned and that's something Japanese, Koreans, Vietnamese, etc naturally develop and can have to the point that skin whitening is a natural and often sought product in those countries

For once we also don't need to blame America or Europe for this, this was a beauty standard established in many places independent of outside contact: Lighter Skin usually meant you were of a higher class and didn't go outside/expose yourself to the sun as much. Hell, it comes up in the Norse Poetic Edda when describing the semi-soft "caste" system

If only it was her hair that changed instead, she’d be looking like a gal.

It has the same root though, which is missed when the conversations about this part of the story come up.
It isn't that it's racist, its that the basic concept and source is much the same as racism, that there was a presumption about her character and or some bad thing she would do that people made based on a physical characteristic or something else she was born with. Those presumtions being perpetuated by stories people tell about people who are also born with that trait. Yeah, it's not a race so it isn't racist and for the japanese it has more do do with their association of lighter skin to beauty, making it likely more a comment on what asian groups traditionally consider pretty if anything, but the wording people are using shouldn't be a distraction from the basic premise of what's happening, that they assumed bad things about her from a trait she was born with and once she proved them all wrong they just hid the trait so it isn't obvious.
Honestly, if the story ended with that, it would be infuriating.
Haven't caught up on the LN but did like how she didn't accept her mother and her change of attitude just because her appearance and reputation changed.

@Twi

I would fuckin love that.

It's hard to hate people who are delusional. People with mental illness need help.

Wha...what the hell is going on with the comment section? It's like twitter only the color is switched, seriously, it isn't even racism. Isn't this about how dark magic is considered evil or something?

So did the “heroine” just attempt to murder the crown prince? How is that anything other than treason?

Everybody’s talking about racism, and I’m here, thinking about WHO manipulated the heroine. Was it her brother? Another noble’s child?

The racist "fixing" is coming up soon, the reason why this manga will probably never get an official translation...

It should conclude soon since there's only 1 LN (16 chapters) and it was marked as complete. We are in around chapter 9-10.

@Natoto
They're talking about what will happen in next chapter, especially a certain scene that people interpreted as racism. But in the end, it's up to you about what you think about that scene
