@PostImpressionism probably because simon is a bit more handsome and from what we've been shown comes across as the more doting type as opposed to ian's teasing type. which you know, neither is better than the other so it's more a matter of taste (plus i think people are rooting for him since in a sense he's the underdog here in the position of "i love this girl but i love my best friend too and don't want to ruin things" so people become inclined to want to root for him because of it.
