Have you ever been in a situation like this in real life? Or seen it? One where someone in the friend group makes a move on someone one of their friends was openly interested in behind everyone's back? What that does to everyone involved? Probably not, if you did you would know right away why Ayami is so fucking hated.
Can't say that I have, but I feel like the context exonerates her. I understand she is not some angel that everyone is gonna like, but I don't think she she deserves the hate she's getting

I do admit I am looking forwards to the soul crushing guilt trip that Yami and whatshisname MC will have when they realize Hikari saw them kiss.

I am almost sure they won't be coming out of that scandal unscathed either. All will suffer together, an orgy of pain and despair.

But it is not the same as the situation you mentioned. The female friend did not go behind the female lead's back, because at the time she did not even have friends, and even when these 2 were friends, she did not actually know who was the female lead's crush. Only when the lead mentioned her crush's name, that's when the female friend actually decided to drop back and avoid the male lead at the festival (initially at least, we still do not know who found whom first, or who did the male lead actually search for, his childhood friend or his "ex"). Yes, I understand that the situation sucks for everyone (both the characters and the actual fans), and I do sympathize with the outrage of a majority of the readers (on here at least, I do not know the Japanese audience). However, I still think the plot is interesting, and actually look forward to how the author resolve the situation.

Your opinion is wrong.

It’s not about NTR, it’s about a cute manga series with a plucky childhood friend who wants to confess to the boy she likes. It was cute and fluffy the whole time until he decided we needed the current round of shit chapters.

It’s the tasteless whiplash and the pointless edgy factor. So what if he didn’t have any feelings for her, there was plenty of bait that he did like her.

This series is shit, stop being a contrarian.
Your opinion is wrong, most people are upset with "NTR" that you created in your delusional heads, the entire manga and from the perspective of the female protagonist, she didn't even see the MC as a man until a while ago, she even says that, and the protagonist just had a desire for competition with her because if he really liked her he would never go to bed with a random girl, now that we are getting the perspective of other characters, you are just upset because your cute manga fell apart

The only outcome I find acceptable is for Hikari to end her friendship with Ayami and move on from Yuu, but I’m fully aware that the chances of that happening are slim.

You are projecting yourself into this fictional character who until a while ago didn't see the MC as a man, just as a childhood friend. The MC didn't know about her feelings and neither did Ayami BECAUSE SHE DIDN'T TELL HIM HER FEELINGS AND SHE ALSO DIDN'T SEE HIM WITH A MAN FOR A WHILE.

We will probably get a "group dynamic falls apart" arc when we get back to the present.

-Hikari becomes a depressed mess.

-MC realizes Hikari DOES like him now, but that he burned that bridge when she saw him kiss Yami.

-Yami will likely be consumed by guilt that she destroyed her new best friend's trust.

No one will come out winning out of this.

What happens after the incoming "everyone is fucking sad and depressed" arc depends entirely on how cynical Maruto wants to be.

I expect the most edgiest path instead of the happiest from him.

Eh wait. . . . . I think I misunderstood. So . . . This didn't actually happen?

Also I went for a quick look in the twitter. And uuuhh quite surprised that the vibe of the comments are hella different from here (since I rarely set my foot on it). At least for now which only have a few quotes as per this time of typing.
so that was real or what?
