At first it's like a sweet appetizer.
Then they give you Spice for the main food, I hope the Spice is controller enough to not destroy the food

why are you expecting that in the first place?
like c'mon the first chapter is like such a fresh air, just a couple from childhood friend, i was expecting it would be some common romcom comedy without any shitty plot in it, but its literally getting weird and weird, and now this manga has reached its current point that truly an ass, the dude is boring tho

He wrote WA2, one of the highest rated VNs in pretty much any site focused on those, it sold well too in the VN niche. Saekano was his most successful work by far though and that's why that might be the main one you've heard of.

People are explaining what they think to be wrong with it. You don't see those things as wrong. It's about as simple as that. There's zero chance people will change their minds here because the author did this in a very polarizing way.

I just want to make it clear I'm not bothered by the contents of the story, there are others stories that deal with similar themes but did it better in my opinion, but by how it was presented and the reason is a mix of: The release schedule. Short chapters. Suddenly jumping between scenes. A 180° tonal shift without proper build-up (it only works in hindsight.) An untimely flashback. And I still stand by shamelessly attempting to shift the audience in her favor, to the point he made her a virgin and put out a comment about this on twitter. The first three also apply to the Hikari part of the manga which I was just reading because Yom was drawing them.

Maybe this was the real scam, because without Yom I would've never even bothered checking this.
He retconned the 21st chapter already?!? Oh he has no idea what he's doing. He wants to chase that WA2 high, but there was actual time to learn about and care for the two heroines in the opening chapter. Here we waited half a year to switch perspectives to a girl that showed up on a total of what 10 pages?

Nothing was retconned.
Yuu interrupted her first attempt at enjo kōsai/papakatsu, and it hasn’t been mentioned since.
Her stepdad was a creep, but no details were given about what actually transpired. She probably left before he could do anything.
Her calling him a 'fucking virgin' is just deflection and fits her character—trying to act like an experienced adult while really just coming off as edgy and childish.

I do agree, however, that it's a bit of a coward's line.
But honestly, what else can you expect from a Visual/Light Novel writer? Backlash from making her a non-virgin would far outweigh any concern for writing integrity.

One thing that has confused me as I have been reading the comments on this chapter is people calling Yami an unlikable character since to me she does not come off as unlikable like she is not great but she is a teen who has been going though some horrible things like her step dad trying to fuck her and every one else in her life giving up on her, also people who clam that it makes no since that she went from her step dad being a creep to selling her body forget that she has be moving between her friends houses trying to survive since she cant go back home and is rn on her last leg with no were she can see to go since even the teachers have given up on her and do not care.

I think most people who call her a unlikable character just don't like the fact is seems like she stole the main guy from the main girl but like she gets with him first and she seems to only start to like him after he gets with her.

also people saying she was made a virgin to make her pure and more likeable are most likely projecting there own views since her being a virgin in fact makes her relationship and her meeting with the main guy a lot more meaning full since it means he saved her from selling her body since it shows she has not go that far and is just a young girl pretending to be a lot more mature then she really is.

Lol. Read this chapter first. Then read in the intended order and oh well.
Crashed and burned, guess there's a drama tag for a reason :pepela:

I gotta say, the release schedule for this is definitely more of a reason for this negative reaction than anything else. If we could just get through this flashback and back into the actual story quicker things would've been different.

This is so fire, the FMC actually had some solid competition bro and it’s not the competition you can absolutely riot against

Good for them, real people are complicated and messy, teenage love is especially messy, exceptionally so with people who’ve suffered from abuse of any kind. I’m glad the author is fleshing things out and I’m very excited to see where the story goes from here, hopefully they aren’t just trolling people and we get a banger of a bittersweet love story.

They are not but you see how one is way past what considered a twist. It's not a twist it's pulling the rug out from under. You can call anything a plot twist but he is saying it goes past that.

If you look through the comments of the chapters nobody was expecting it on foresight it's literally on hindsight. Once we had hindsight you could sort of reach and say some things but if you can't catch it till you reread or rewatch something it's not a well set up twist it's a sucker punch. And in this case it's done by prime Mike Tyson.

The guy said verbatim that he thought this wasn't a twist because it was "unexpected", he doesn't need you to defend his lack of literacy. Plot twists by definition are meant to be unexpected in an understandable way, either with obvious setup or through rereading past chapters, this was not the first plot twist that has done this. Just because you didn't like the twist, which is understandable, does not mean it wasn't one.

According to wikipedia, plot twists "may change the audience's perception of the preceding events, or introduce a new conflict that places it in a different context."

Twists need to potentially be seen coming to be considered 'twists'. Not to say they NEED to be seen. But they need to be able to be seen. There needs to be hints.

There were no hints. There wasn't anything portraying this sort of turn in the plot. This simply isn't a twist, it's just a lie.

Now you're allowed to enjoy the lie. I'm sure it's entertaining for some people with certain mindsets and expectations. I've enjoyed stories that lied to me before. But it's not a 'twist' and those who dislike it for such reasons are correct.

Again, this DID have hints, they were only more apparent after the plot twist was revealed. Which again, serves one of the main uses of plot twists: to change their perception of previous events. This did exactly that, people are just salty over the plot twist because it didn't go the way they wanted, and you saying this was a somehow a "lie" proves to me even more that certain people cannot handle plot twists.

For it to be a "lie" the story would need to have established something contradictory beforehand, and there was nothing that implied Yuu didn't have a prior relationship. Quite the contrary as it was already shown that there were people in Yuu's life that Hikari had no idea about (Kan). Kan's statement about Yuu liking a "new" girl also implied that he liked another girl before, we assumed it was Hikari but Kan could very well have been referring to Ayami instead after the twist was revealed.
