Huh i went back to chapter 21, and i realized that ayami refers to mmc as her former boyfriend. That means they did offically date for some time period. She never told FMC did she? thats what makes her a shitty friend. Yea I can understand those two being teenagers with baggage (really her baggage and the mmc is just honry), but to not tell fmc about your former relationship is fucked up. ISTG if FMC and MMC end up a couple, if FMC doesn't find out that those two have slept with eachother before they do anything, Imma be super pissed.
Ayami didn't know until a group chat in Chapter 11, I think it was.

What was she supposed to say to Hikari? "Oh, the guy you love is my ex-boyfriend and we fucked." What would happen if a high school boy said that to another guy about the girl he was chasing?

Unfortunately I got spoiled about the show (not the scene, but the fact that the show is unique) before I watched it, so I can't compare Madoka with this.

Maybe they could've introduced the FMC (the bad one) earlier, not as a "Friend C" but potential FMC, to lessen the shock. Anyways, I hope the flashback ends soon. I get the point 1-2 chapters ago. :nyoron:
I don't think it's just a backstory. The first set of chapters was the story to now as seen by Hikari. This set is the story to now as seen by Ayami, which means we have another year's worth of story (may be time gaps). I expect another set of chapters to be the story to now as seen by Yuu.

I think it's more that people were here for the fluff and the autor whiplashed them. If they wanted a drama, they would have gone elsewhere.
Why are they still here? Have they NEVER walked out of a bad movie or dropped an anime that they didn't like?

It's not realistic, in reality most relationships are quite mundane. You conveniently forget that yami took her traumatic home situation and instead of getting help ran to manipulate a stranger. I know a girl who was in yamis situation, she got help the bastard is in jail and she didn't manipulate a stranger. See the issue. If you look at it realisticly yami is a bad person and mmc is pathetic. So yes yami is in the wrong.
Japan has a real problem with even police not wanting to get involved in "household business" and also with sexual assault being the fault of the victim because they "didn't have their guard up/put themselves in the situation".

To be fair, for a long time it wasn't like this so if you have been reading comfy fluff for that long and suddenly you got uncalled drama, it's normal for some folks to protest and be in denial for a while if you don't like the changes. Sometimes a little of hateread is fun even. Happens to the best of us.

Just that I was reading this when it looked like a cute, bland HS Childhood Friend Romcom too. Personally I welcomed the change as it became FAR more interesting.
I agree. It's just I understand why people would hate the sudden change in tone and the implications of abuse. My only gripe it is was heavy handed, the author could have introduced the drama in small doses to let people prepare.

Surely this chapter won't impact the ratings (6.74 at time of typing this) any further & the comments won't exceed the record that chapter 21 has (438 comments at the moment & I'm actually impressed with that number)… right everyone? I don't want to be that guy but Yuu is not even going out with Hikari plus he's a teenager so what else can you expect besides that devoted guy trope that ends up feeling creepy. Doesn't mean this makes her any better than she was before but hey Yuu got laid as a result of his kindness. Thanks for the translations.
People bitching about this are pathetic this is a good story

You people are too irrational.

I'll agree with the argument about the sudden plot twist, that wasn't even a real twist for those who already know the ways of the anime drama... But, Aya/Yami is not exactly at fault for being an ex? Like, Hikari didn't even paid attention from Yuu back then.

Yeah Yeah, the kiss –in the present day– scene is quite heartbreaking, but it is what it is. If Hikari moves on, it would be great, but I DOUBT.

The execution of the story was somewhat terrific, but, honestly I kind like it... For me, since her appearance, Aya was foreshadowed to be in that place.

"Terrific" is ambiguous in your statement. While context does allow one to discern that it means "very bad or unpleasant" instead of "very good or fine; splendid" I think that a better word would be "terrible".

They'd maybe fight over it, verbally and maybe physically, then sit down and talk it over, if they're friends and not simply acquaintances. And even if they end up not being friends anymore, this is something you owe your friends if you really think of them as friends.

There was a round 2 after all. :dogkek:

Funny how she kept bludgeoning him with virgin this, virgin that as insults for the past few chapters but she was also a virgin herself and ended up exchanging V-cards with each other. So yeah, seems the sexually abusive stepdad was unsuccessful and her first "john" never actually showed up, nor did she try to continue sugar dating after she was stood up.

It's a narrative retreat from her original reveal as this supposedly "psychologically scarred and defiled villain trying to drag a main character into the mud with them"; and is an attempt to swing her back into love rival territory. Maybe due to fear of backlash, so they didn't commit to the growing dumpster fire with her backstory.

The interesting part now is that we have a male lead who's not a virgin (anymore). Stop the presses, that's illegal!

Isn't the "virgin" taunt of boys by virgin girls a staple of romcoms and romdrams? The taunt is far more effective against boys since it means they're not "manly". Against girls it's more "thank you for recognizing I'm not promiscuous". Nagatoro is one example.

It's hard to say where the story is going, maybe he ends up with Yami since he seems to be enjoying the kiss and as the title says "It's a Little Late" it took Hikari a long time to realize. It doesn't seem like Yuu is the type of character who will try something with Hikari well he seems to have given up a long time ago.

one point about the translation Hikari means Light and her rival ended up being Yami which means Darkness
