On top of that though, Yuu has also been hiding Aya, is worried about something going down at the festival but doesn't give Hikari a heads up, and then lies about why he went missing, probably b/c he's scared of Hikari's reaction to the info given he's in love with her. So he's also a liar and coward for trying to deflect Hikari's anger/frustration by confessing.

So in the end, Hikari, Yami and Yuu all lied to each other, and all three were cowards. Everyone sucks here to varying degrees.

Just because you can explain someone's actions it doesn't mean they're excused from the consequences of said actions.

Stop assuming people aren't aware of why he would do it, they just don't care.

Does it though? If facing the consequences could help the friend in any way, I'd agree, but in this case it doesn't really bring them any good from any perspective.

They're now aware that you know this information about them that they for whatever reason chose not to share with you. Unless you two have had a "don't tell me if I don't know" conversation, you do not know their perspective and therefore do not know if you facing consequences will bring them any good. I think the person who did something wrong is not entitled to unilaterally make the decision that it is better for everyone that they do not face consequences for their misdeed.

its completely up to him whether or not she should know about his past relationship. If he doesnt feel comfortable speaking on it, that is his prerogative. If he decides its time to be completely honest with her about everything, then he should be an open book about it.

So if it's completely up to him on whether she should know about this past relationship, how does "some proper communication between these 3 so that they can all make the proper decision on what to do with their life?" happen? Like yeah sure it's reasonable that he's uncomfortable and communication is hard, but it being hard doesn't determine whether it was ok not to.

Though I do want to point out that this manga is a writing exercise in structural parallelism and so far we've seen multiple attempts on Hikari's side that got Yuu to think "hmm, maybe she does like me" and so far 1 attempt on Yuu's side that he hid from her. Like maybe we'll see more on Yuu's side and Hikari's just more dense than he is, but I think that's also important in evaluating what the author is trying to say about cowardice, whether they're successful or not.

So uh, I honestly forgot when she calls him a coward. If it's about this chapter well then she explicitly thinks it's like her old behavior

It’s so painful, like watching all my own embarrassing behavior from the past six months!

But also the discussion before this is all about Yuu's lack of confidence that she liked him and how he thought she was out of her league, so I take it as her thinking he's a coward for talking himself out of even trying where like Hikari tries to be friends w/ Aya even after Aya shoots her down. The convo that follows is where he admits that he was gonna hold off on trying until he was 100% sure.

I think that means Hikari/Aya as endgame and not Aya/the guy who kept her a secret and she knew was in love with a different girl.

Reason I hammer on this so much is we have the parallel - Aya thinks (and is apparently correct to) that Yuu is in love w/ Hikari b/c he talks about her endlessly.

Ok, so for a long time when Hikari was talking about Yuu to Ayami and her two friends she was referring to him as Ta-kun because his last name is Takamura. In chapter 11 when Hikari and Yuu are on the amusement park date there's a group chat going on and the blond friend makes a pun based on Yuu's name which causes Ayami to say "Yuu? Huh? Isn't Hikari's boyfriend's name Ta-kun?"

This is the moment that Ayami starts to put 2 and 2 together and realizes that the guy she dated and ghosted and the guy that her best friend is in love with are the same guy. You see later in chapter 13.5 where Ayami confirms with Hikari that her boyfriend's name is Yuu to which Hikari says "H-He's not...He's not my boyfriend yet." In Ayami's internal monologue she confirms that it was the amusement park date that started the realization. She goes on to think "God...this isn't fair at all." People in these threads have been arguing because it's not 100% revealed yet if Ayami still loves Yuu and hasn't told Hikari because she wants him back or if she values her friendship with Hikari so much she doesn't want to reveal the truth because she's afraid of destroying her relationship with Hikari.

As far as the answer to your "What did Yuu actually do wrong here?"...it's complicated. There's currently two sides to the debate in these threads. I am vastly oversimplifying them below.

1) Yuu is at fault because you should never lie. His lying has hurt Hikari and made things worse than him just telling the truth.
2) Yuu is not at fault for not mentioning he dated Ayami as he has no reason to reveal his past relationships in detail to a prospective future girlfriend.

There's more to those two sides than that but I already type too much to begin with and I don't need to start a freaking novel explaining the nuances of both sides.

I also want to point out that so far there has been no indication that Yuu knows Ayami and Hikari know each other. Until we get Yuu's POV (if that even happens) we won't know 100% what's truly going on.
