Outside of like (really bad) hentai, girls typically want reassurance that a guy is w/ them for more than sex, hell even smut geared at women will make sure to have a few explicit "guy showing he cares about her as a person" events after they've started hooking up.

The reason I think Yuu didn't get that across to Aya is b/c I don't think 41 falls out the way it did if Aya is totally secure in Yuu's feelings for her.

I am not sure how this correlates with the chapter where Yuu is explicitly trying to get Yami to watch a movie instead of going to the hotel. I thought this should be a surefire way to prove that Yami wasn't worried about that, but apparently not.

There's no reason to have the short chapter with her middle school friend picking up the red flags

I think that's just the aspect you singled out from that chapter because it supported your idea. Pretty sure the reason for that chapter was to show Yami's old friend and Yami herself being so happy about her relationship that she basically stopped caring about everything else, and her friend mentioning the relationship ending is just a little foreshadowing.

They only went b/c she suggested it, then he says it'd be a waste of money not to. There's no "hey, I want to enjoy this activity with you".

ETA: also I feel like I should be clearer here. I agree w/ you that Aya enjoys the physical intimacy w/ Yuu, I just think it's coming from a psychologically unhealthy place where she's doing it b/c she feels it's how she can "bind" Yuu, but the one sidedness leaves her feeling insecure in the relationship. Which is why her daydream/complaint is the lack of proactive on his side romantic/emotional bonding - reach out your hand.

Which, we get Yuu telling Hikari/Aya/the reader how amazing he thinks Hikari is in his confession/intro to Aya/POV chapters. Where does Yuu do that for Aya?

It can't be foreshadowing since the readers knows the relationship is doomed by the time that chapter comes out. And also foreshadowing still needs to be rooted within the context of the story - there has to be a reason why a character makes a prediction.
Which means Maruto is trying to convey that this friend is picking it up from the Aya she's seeing in that chapter, where Aya is being down on herself (someone like me) & having impossible expectations (he's all I need).
