Unfortunately the author managed to cultivate the perfect conditions for a Hate-Base. The majority of the readers are filled with vast quantities of both frustration and spite, and juuuust enough hope that things will turn around for them to keep coming back. Boil that over a flame stoked by folks intentionally trolling them and those who unwittingly dismiss their valid frustrations and it turns into self-sustaining morass that they can not extricate themselves from.

Well when you bill your manga as a light breezy romcom, and make your first volume a light breezy romcom, you’re gonna attract a specific demographic (people who wanted a light breezy romcom)

It's also annoying that there is such condescension from these people who just deflect the poor execution of this flashback sequence and dismiss the people criticizing it as "romcom slop enjoyers". Sure, LOL, okay. The fact I want to enjoy all these characters and plot in its entirety without it being bungled. Sure. That makes me a "Romcom slop enjoyer"

Eh she seems to be peak shoujo heroine, where she acts like everyone's security blanket and saviour. Aya thinks she's her best friend and in Hikari's flashbacks, Aya is going to school regularly and has friends who she's open enough with to share about having an ex and that her step dad is a cheat and that her mom is a awful and invited them to her step dad's mistresses place. Like if anything she's more important in Aya's life than Yuu's.

Hikari's overwhelming shiny brightness is probably shown here as the start of how the story gets back to Hikari's part, where Aya is going to school, having friends, and is just the cool mature one of their friend group. Which going by the chats and the like, sounds like Hikari is treated like the cheery innocent one of the group. ETA2: The reason I'm emphasizing this is b/c Aya goes back to school b/c she's fed up after spending a month with her mom and is ready to bounce immediately and she ghosted Yuu instead of telling him about her home life. These glimpses of postive behavior only start after Hikari is in her life.

Eta: Saviour was probably an exaggeration, sure, but like Maruto named her "light" and I think that's the role she's supposed to be filling.

I totally forgot that Ayami withdrawn to the classroom, most likely, in hope to avoid Yuu, but he found her there anyway (i'd guess, he probably went there to wait for Hikari after he heard clean up announcement, since it looked like Hikari caught them not too long after they met).
