And also I think Maruto is going for a contrast between Aya hiding her emotions (dark) and Hikari showing her emotions (light) rather than rational and irrational b/c if anything Aya hiding her emotions is part of her rational to her but deeply irrational behavior pattern.

Of course, this does go against the whole Light/Dark symbology he's built for Hikari and Yami, and how Yuu(Dusk) is a transition between the 2.

Yeah this. Like if Maruto is sticking to the symbolism than probably the way to make Hikari dark would be to go full inversion and make Aya light. And like the climax was Aya actively choosing selfish so really doesn't seem to be going there.

I wasn't comparing Hikari to Yami there. They're both irrational. I'm also not saying that they're irrational because they express negative emotions.
