The more I read the more I can't help feeling sorry for Yuu tbh. He's been romantically ignored by his childhood friend and ghosted by his ex with no explanation, and then he ends up unknowingly walking into whatever they've been stewing together for the year or so after their relationships change.

All that said, I actually do quite like all these characters, they just all feel kind of toxic together.

The writing here is starting to feel like it's drifting into that zone of smug, pseudo-profound bullshit that indicates either the character or the author is insufferable. God, it would be so fucking funny if it was the former, and it turned out this was a whole new axis on which Ayami sucked, even after all her problems in life get resolved.

If you look at the Hikari chapters they weren’t THIS bad, which makes me think Yami is just insufferable

Been saying this since the beginning of the second arc. She is an awful human being. Not in an evil kind of way everytime, because she has had some straight up evil stuff she has done, but even in the times where it's not straight up like doing something sinister she acts in a way that is straight up detrimental to herself and everyone around her.

She is the worst.

It would be a great twist and I would be here for it if she continued to treat her post-reform first-world problems like only getting a 94 on an exam with all the gravity of her life and family falling apart. Hikari can't pick a song at karaoke, so Yami fills the dead air by telling you about the darkness in her soul. They're out of oat milk at the coffee shop, and Yami throws her cell phone at the barista and falls to her knees screaming.

Shit that might actually push it around to me liking her

Hikari did nothin' wrong! Yuu could have put on the moves at any point, but decided to self-sabotage himself by putting up obstacles in the way of him telling her how he feels.

If Yuu just told her how he felt, he could have moved on with no regerts. Hikari didn't owe Yuu any romantic consideration, because she was unaware of his feelings and was fine being his friend at the time.

Yuu is a bitch for not being able to speak to his friend about his feelings, Yami is a hoe for ghosting Yuu and then breaking the bro-code by kissing him after Hikari expressed her interest in Yuu. Hikari's only fault is being a nice, straightforward person surrounded by assholes.

So Aya totally does this with the Aya/Yuu/Hikari triangle - she does a whole tragic "woe is me he always loved her" to justify saying "yes" to Hikari's "do you think he likes me text" and in the climax is very "on no!!!, my best friend loves my ex who tragically I'm still in love with" as if this was new information b/c Aya catastrophizes everything.

then he ends up unknowingly walking into whatever they've been stewing together for the year or so after their relationships change.
Eh, this is a problem of his own making that he could have prevented with a "Hikari, my ex goes to your school, her name is Aya [Hikari knows both her last names]"

"She will be the one to illuminate my darkness"

Clearly the light she was referring to was how she got back with her ex who she knew Hikari liked.

I gotta be honest, I never thought that the manga would turn into something like this.

But I'm all for it, hahaha. This whole fluffy lovey-dovey manga has turned into a Rank S Asian drama, and with each passing chapter I laugh and scream more and more incoherently. Please, continue. Continue until the world of light and dark intertwine into an endless cyclone full of confusion and suffering.

Also, checking out the forums after each chapter makes me have pleasant feelings 😂

Then you're fine with Yuu going for Yami in the present? Because I could switch "Hikari" and "Yuu" in these sentences and they would still hold true.

I agree that Hikari didn't owe Yuu any consideration (no one owes anyone any feelings), but its undeniable that Yuu felt kind of burned out by their relationship and his feelings of inferiority.

I do disagree that Hikari has no faults though. I'm not sure she's a particularly good friend to Yuu, given that she's completely unaware of his feelings (not just romantic ones), seemingly at any point. Also to call her straightforward seems strange given how much she beats around the bush in trying to communicate with Yuu. She also has this overly innocent side which is unable to see negative emotions or deal with Yuu and Yami in a mature way (we can see that this aspect is good for Yami, she's sick of being treated in a mature way, but not great for Yuu). This isn't to suggest Hikari is bad or anything, she's a kid, she's allowed to be naive and pure, just that these are not necessarily unflawed aspects of her.
