Note that even the optimistic theory, there’s gonna be a lot of drama upcoming untangling secrets and lies and histories before we can even hope for a happy ending.
i would be SHOCKED if next chapter we didnt get hikari yuu and yami all in that same gym building.

Hikari prob gonna have a dance with yuu, yami come to the gym and then hikari let yami have yuu or something and then she goes out crying out of the gym into the rain with both of them chasing after her lol

/snip/
There have been some josei/shojo manga out there like “i ran into an ex whose a single mom now” that’s a bit more wholesome than this story /snip/
Any good? Wholesome sounds nice. I can only think of the seinen Hungry Mother and Daughter one about a single mom ex, which is ❤️ but has comments sections that deserve their own biohazard safety level. :aquadrink:

So like, the exact times are conveniently absent from everything, so we don't know how long it was from Yuu's arrival until the end of Hikari's shift, how long from end of shift to Hikari's return to her classroom, from kiss to beginning of this chapter, etc., but:

When Hikari found Yuu and Yami, it was back at her classroom. So he probably went there looking for Hikari and found Yami instead. Naturally, Hikari did not stick around, and we have no idea what she or anyone else was up to. But even if his phone was dead you'd think he'd find one of her friends or have her paged or something.

Still sucks, looks super bad on him, but probably isn't quite "he totally forgot she existed." Chapter provides no answers, only lies.

Edit: Webnovel provides answers, though. Bad ones. Dude sucks.
Webnovel does provide more detail but dont think it disproves anything you say here.

Like you said, times being absent from everything means we all dont know how long the times has passed since that kiss. Shit like for all we know its only 30 minutes but cause its raining so hard its so dark outside now.

And im gonna be a yuu defender here, like i know yuu does a shitty thing for ditching hikari on their promise but really disagree on the "he totally forgot hikari existed", he just met his ex after more than 1 year lol think its understandable if his whole attention was on that whole interaction.

i didn't have specific examples in mind, haven't read that one, but i'm sure there's lots of good slice of life comedies that's more so on the childhood/childcare/parenthood thing as opposed to 'romance' as the focus but depends on the author/genre

Oh finally the bait and switch flashback arc ended huh. Let's see how this trainwreck will end I guess.

If the author wants this to be even more edgy he could have Hikari jump off the school building and have Yuu and Yami deal with the outcome, or go nice boat route.

Joking aside, what I'm hoping for is Hikari cutting both of them off her life. The two deserves each other. She deserves better.

But I'm guessing this is gonna go convoluted drama way, Hikari turns "dark", and Yami turns "light" and maybe saves her, etc.

I was smiling the whole chapter.
I might have enjoyed a little too much seeing the naive Hikari, who looked as if she had never had a bad day in their life and thought that Yuu was to wait for her forever, looking so hurt.
I haven't seen a Shuraba manga that I can't predict completely this good in years.
Although I have some guesses about who Yuu is going to end up with (probably Yami or a third heroine)

I don't exactly want to be the "Yuu defender" or whatever, but I do want to say that I don't really think we know anything about him. It's definitely wrong for him to be lying here but we also don't really know why he is lying, and it is shitty to stand your friend up but there's a lot going on here.

The only things we've seen about Yuu are from really biased perspectives - Hikari and Yami. Hikari clearly doesn't know him as well as she thought she did (she was surprised to find out he masturbated for heaven's sake, and we have no context for his relationship with that other girl who showed up at one point) and what we saw from Yami was a kid with an inferiority complex and someone who was genuinely thinking about their future together.

This chapter is the aftermath of Yuu meeting his ex-girlfriend who ghosted him and cut him off, completely out of the blue to him - I'm not entirely sure how I would react in that situation but I don't think I would stick around for my friends in that context either tbqh, I'd probably be feeling like shit. We know that he kissed Yami but we have no idea what happened after or before - frankly we just don't know this dude at all. Maybe he does end up being a huge jerk, I wouldn't be surprised, he's a teenage boy.
Here is what we know about Yuu - he had feelings for Hikari. He decided to hinge whether or not he confrsses his feelings for her on passing an exam (This was self-imposed btw). Once he fails the exam, instead of talking to Hikari about the stuff he is going through or his feelings, he hooks up with Yami. Hikari may not have been his BEST friend, but they were close enough that they hung out together all the time.

Just from reading the Manga, and especially after this chapter, Yuu's issue is that he is SUPER passive. He wasn't even rejected by Hikari initially, he just talked himself out of shooting his shot because he failed a test. Then he ditched Hikari in this chapter which is a dick move whether he thought he was going as a friend or as a date. He sucks ass bro.

I remember I jokingly predicted Hikari would fuck a teacher or something when the rugpull happened. I hope something like that actually happens, maybe a little compensated dating or something :smugnako:

Yuu was completely right in thinking Hikari didn't like him back. At the festival she thought she probably would have rejected the (pre-Yami) Yuu if he'd asked her out. She only likes the certified fuckboy Yuu and she's getting fuckboy'd to be sure

Yuu is being a really shitty childhood friend by lying about what he's been doing, but how do you explain what happened to her if you assume she didn't know about it? "Yeah, sorry I was busy making out with/potentially fucking? my ex who I wasn't expecting to see and haven't seen in years, you know how it goes" lmao
Yeah like yuu was shitty for ditching hikari on their promises for going around the festival but like he just met his ex who ghosted him after a year lol, think its understandable his whole focus gonna be on that for a while and it doesnt even mean he forget hikari during all that cause we still hasnt seen his pov yet.

And yeah i genuinely confused at why so many people are surprised yuu was lying here cause yuu hasnt told hikari about his past + yuu also didnt realise hikari saw the slap and kiss.
Yuu lying about it def means he is still not ready for hikari to learn the truth about his past for whatever reason

Didnt hikari even goes as far as introducing girls to yuu? Like yeah in ideal world yuu would have just talk about his feeling to hikari but its not surprising that he think he doesnt stand a chance
