I must be on some drugs because I can't figure out how Yuu is the bad guy here.

He gets rejected 2x times before
Find someone to fill the hole in his heart just to get ghosted
Realizes that he still loves Hikari
Tries to confront the ex that ghosted him
Gets kissed? (Since we do not know who did what it is a moot point to discuss)
Tries to confess anyway
Gets shoved to the ground

People make up this whole scenario in their head without anything to back it up.
We still don't know his PoV. That's all there is to it. People will hate a character regardless. It's just that Hikari has been shown as a paragon of virtue till now (aside from being somewhat selfish and delusional). So people are taking her side because no stakes wholesome slop romcom readers are not known for their objectivity. Yuu is the source of conflict right now so he will be hated. He should have waited for 5 more years like a wall flower and hope for Hikari to fall for him since apperantly, he has no other function.

Alas, until we get Yuu's POV as well to learn the whole picture, pointlessly hating a character is meaningless.

I'm on team "everyone should walk away". Hikari is too immature, Yami has bigger problems to solve and Yuu should have moved on from this puppy love mixed with inferiority complex already.

1. I definitely disagree with some people's notion he's "the bad guy" I would say he's fucked up but boiling it down to him being a bad guy is such an unfair oversimplification of what's happening

2. We don't know what those "heartbreaks" were they were likely unintentional it happened out of Hikaris obliviousness to his feelings

3. The problem is Hikari feels lied to he was dishonest where he was when he was with Yami during the festival and completely hid his relationship with Yami her reaction and hurt in the moment is very understandable in my opinion

100% T H I S

That's litterally all I ask from him and him acknowledging to himself that he was "the worst today" in the novel makes make me feel a tad optimistic that's the direction it's gonna go

I don't think he's really a bad person he's an insecure teen who is scared of being completely open when he really should've been honest and open I'll criticize his actions absolutely but i'm fully willing to give him the chance to learn from it

And him trying to be open and honest with Hikari I think will already go a very long way in starting to mend there relationship
INB4 Maruto(author) goes:

"WHAT!? PEOPLE LIKE YUU!?
HELL NO NOT ON MY WATCH!"

Like for real, I swear the author sees comments being positive about a character, and he takes that as a challenge instead.:dogkek:

You're right alot of people are trying to examine an incomplete picture currently but still judge it as a full painting

I do think it's undeniable Yuu fucked up by lying and not being open to Hikari nothing is gonna fully excuse that and she has a definite right to be upset but how understandable he is could change very drastically depending on what we find with his POV and how much he'll be deserving of forgiveness

We just have to wait and see

I mean we might learn in his flashback that him being reluctant as fuck about opening up might be entirely justifiable. That's why i said its too early to burn him on a stake. He did say this was the 3rd time she broke his heart.

Sheesh, I went to bed an hour before this chapter dropped and woke up to 10 pages of comments!

Best possible outcome to the cliffhanger. I picture them in ten years, in whatever situations and relations they find themselves in. Yuu will look back and think about how he fumbled Hikari, but he did get laid. Yami hopefully gets the good therapy. And Hikari will lose her naive shoujo brain before meeting someone better. Perhaps not a happy ending in this moment, but the best ending for their terrible situation.

The alternative is dating him while pretending to be all right and never adressing the elephant in the room.
At least, right now she has a chance of healing.
Definitely not a "happy ending" is my point lol

The elephant in the room needs to be addressed and Yuu needs to really come to terms with the fact that him not being open with Hikari is protecting no one including himself

I think the best way forward genuinely is for Yuu to just be open and honest with Hikari from now on

Explain his problems to her and genuinely apologize for everything and start being just open from then on

Would that be a quick process? Of course not but it's certainly a better outcome in my opinion

I seriously doubt Hikari would prefer shutting out Yuu completely from now on over him just learning from his mistakes and taking responsibility

It's very weird seeing level headed takes in this forum. Usually they're hanging Yuu by his eyelids in the comments section

She can't reject him, when he never had the balls to confess to begin with, though ? 😐

He just dropped it and went for the girl that came on him instead, kinda shows how much he "loves" hikari 🤨
He said he was reject 2 times, and we already know that before she fall in love for him she was just a friend, i don't know how but probably she said in a way that show she just want him as a friend

Again, Yuu was crushing on Hikari for years and wasn'r sure how she felt about him, so had very good reasons for not leading with "Soooo funny story, that girl in your class with the short hair? Me and her spent about 6 months fucking like rabbits in hotels all over city - all over the Prefecture, actually - doing the nasty in every position and place our hormone-fueled brains and bodies could dream up, until she ghosted me for reasons I don't know. Anyway, what I wanted to tell you is I love you so much, will you please go out with me?"
What do you mean? Maybe I am stupid, but Hikari isn't calling him a liar because she expects him to be an 100% open book perfect Mr Goody Two Shoes.
She's calling him a liar because she saw him kissing Yami like 30 minutes ago and now he's going "Oh, Hikari my love, I loved you forever now, ever since I met you!"
And I mean, she saw him tongue-fucking a chick 30 minutes ago so that doesn't fucking add up, from her perspective it's obvious he's trying to play her up.

And that's the icing in this dung cake because he also forgot she existed during the festival and lied to her about his phone battery being dead.

Yeah he's in for a shit storm because he couldn't have chosen a worst timing for his confession.

Yuu had a relationship with a girl while still harboring feelings for his childhood friend, which is either impossible or "cheating" apparently, and he also didn't tell his childhood friend whom he loves about it even though it is literally none of her business and should have no bearing on their relationship, so he should burn in hell too.
It is so thoroughly bizzare to me how this seems to be the common belief around these parts, to the point that many people dont even consider the fact that someone can love one person whioe also dating another as a possibility. Might be a cultural divide? Idk

That aside it is kinda interesting that throughout the manga, hikari has also often kept things from yuu or lied/deceived him, its just that she judges those to be on a different level than what yuu did (and id probably agree), so its fine.

Very good chapter, thanks for the tl!

This is an important lesson for Yuu. Because he has acted like a spineless pos for so long he will end up with no one.

Hikari deserves better. She can't trust him.

Yami needs someone stronger to help deal with her baggage. She used him as an emotional crutch and now she knows for sure he used her as a stop gap.

There are also two witnesses watching whats taking place. There's no hiding it.
It's definitely an important lesson but personally think "pos" is bit harsh he's insecure and cowardly and need to start being honest but I wouldn't say he's a "piece of shit"

I also don't think he's incapable of change- yeah, I don't expect it to happen in like two chapters but this being a brutal call to reality and making him fully realize just how much his cowardlyness and insecurities are a problem and finally force him to confront them and just start being open

You could say that he is being a dick/bad guy by lying to Hikari about his phone and by not telling her about Yami. The way he confessed to Hikari ("loved you for 10 years") does not paint him in good light either since she knows something is up with Yami. All of it makes him seem like a spineless liar. Not the best optics
