So he told her everything? But we don't see the telling. Makes me wonder- did he tell her he could have made a move earlier if he had a spine? That the reason he sadfucked Aya was because he couldn't get into the same school as Hikari, and that proved he was unworthy of her? Cause if he told Hikari that stuff, I'd expect Hikari to be way less understanding than she is in this chapter. Honestly surprised she didn't put him in the scorpion deathlock.

Ugg my March Madness bracket is in shambles and now I have to read another chapter of this manga that leaves out sooooo much information from the novel.

In the novel, right between Hikari asking Yuu to talk and him starting to talk (so pages 3 and 4 of this chapter), Yuu says "Yami-senpai is the first person who has ever saved me in my life...and the first person I've ever had to save in my life." This causes Hikari to think that his statement is a death sentence for her aka her chances of having any sort of romantic relationship with Yuu. It's compounded further on when she realizes that Yuu and Yami are 30 steps ahead of her.

Then, when they're arguing on pages 6 & 7 about who helped melt Yami's heart and the fact that they both "broke" Yami again, Hikari thinks "Should I give Ta-kun to Aya-chan? But would that even make Aya-chan happy? And more importantly, would that even be something I could accept?" I would assume that's a big enough reveal to make the manga but nope.

Also, regarding the whole "we broke Yami thing" - seriously barf - Yami did the heavy lifting there. If you want to think about it logically, Hikari had no clue that Yami and Yuu even knew each other until she witnessed the kiss and Yuu had no clue that Yami and Hikari knew each other until he met Yami in the classroom. For both Yuu and Hikari to try to take ownership of Yami breaking is lame and frankly kind of insulting to the reader.

Right after page 8 in the manga, in the novel Hikari thinks "I won't let the weakling Ta-kun decide anything right now because he's the one who lied to me in the first place. So from now on I will only follow my own feelings. I won't allow him, a liar, to run away for that reason alone. That's right, okay? I won't let you get away, Ta-kun" - I think this is a pretty big revelation that gets zero mention in the manga.

Then on page 11 after Hikari has asked about how much Yuu liked Yami and her there's nothing further but in the novel, Hikari thinks "So, if his feelings for Aya aren't a lie, then his feelings for me aren't a lie either, is that it? He's so indecisive! Well, I guess I'm a chicken for using the past tense when asking about his love for Aya." Again, we're getting all these insights into Hikari's mindsight and they are not making it to the manga.

Finally, in the novel, right after Hikari puts her hand over Yuu's we get the following insight into her mind: "He could easily break free if he just shook me off. But he doesn't run away. Of course not, right? Because he really, really, really liked me. Those kind of feelings don't just disappear so easily. I'm sure that's true of his feelings for Aya-chan too."

Seriously, we get all these insights into Hikari's mind and none of the really good stuff is shared in the manga. I would venture to say that most of the people reading this on Mangadex don't bother to click on the novel link in the description and go read it. I just don't understand why they leave so much out.
I was annoyed that Hikari (manga) didn't mention anything about him loving Aya despite loving Hikari so at least the novel addressed that. Still kinda eh though.

Thanks for the chapter.
Its is a bit weird that hikari thought him telling her he always loved her is a lie but i suppose shes young and doesnt know any better. I do like that the manga is starting to acknowledge her faultd as well, even if its only her cowardice and spinelessness. Its taken almost 50 chapters but its something
Tbf if someone said they always loved me then made love with someone else I'd doubt them too (Southeast asian here, so more culturally similar, if that matters)

I get why the comment section hates her, (I disagree) and that's partially the authors fault. But being the ex of the LI isn't a sin. Yami is a messed up kid who rejected someone she loved, as self preservation, not healthy and based on her backstory It makes sense. Still, she should have told Hikari when she realised who Yuu was. I also get why she didn't, she was afraid she'd lose her best friend.
Did you sleep through the chapter where Yami tried to get Hikari sexually assaulted on their first meeting, or how she intentionally kissed you in front of Hika to intentionally hurt her?

Goddamn, the lengths people go to to use the "messed up kid doing self preservation" line...

  • they become official couple.
  • went to yami to let her know.
  • yami <insert all her emo here> decided to run to the sunset.
  • the couple decided to split up and never meet again because of the painful memory above.
  • and then they all live happily ever after.

well, if only anyway.

Now that was an exceptionally good chapter.
Well, first of all, Yuu have told her everything, including their past hotel adventures Nice)
Also, I like how it's shown that it's a big deal for adolescents: how Yukari can't be honest if she sees him face-to-face, how it takes her so much courage to just touch his hand, how...how she doesn't want to know about their past...but has to.
Also, I liked that bit where Yukari defended her right to forgive him. She doesn't want to make him an enemy in order to make up with Aya. She is so strong. That's cute.
Thanks for the translation

Makes me wonder- did he tell her he could have made a move earlier if he had a spine?
That wouldn´t changed nothing (as he recognizes in chapter 38 during his confession), Hikari herself says in chapter 17 when she learns about the failed exam of Yuu, she securely would have rejected him in that point, she only fell in love with him because Yuu got a girlfriend and he changed thanks to that girlfriend -who also became the best friend of Hikari, so Hikari definitely approves the girl in question and she only is upset because the toxic ex girlfriend of "Taa-kun" was not sincere with her about her still existing feelings for Yuu-
That the reason he sadfucked Aya was because he couldn't get into the same school as Hikari, and that proved he was unworthy of her?
Detected alt account of Haruhi Ichigaya aka "Haru".
Not. It was because he fell in love at first sight with Aya, Hikari herself says, again, in chapter 41, if Yuu followed to Yami to that love hotel, is because he loved her too. And yes, people is able to love two persons at the same time.
And anyway, even Hikari securely noticed who was Aya who taked that decision for Yuu. And also this was a much more healthy decision from Yuu than still simping for a girl WHO DIDN´T CORRESPOND HIS FEELINGS.
But Mangadex wants Yuu was an eternal simp who "has to fight for Hikari" like Kazuya Kinoshita from Kanokari.
Cause if he told Hikari that stuff, I'd expect Hikari to be way less understanding than she is in this chapter. Honestly surprised she didn't put him in the scorpion deathlock.
Because, again, we are talking about the same girl who attempted get a girlfriend for Yuu in middle school and worked as middle-woman to any girl who would be interested in get a date with "Taa-kun" in that time.
Again, for Hikari, Yuu having an ex-girlfriend is something good and positive. Her bothering is only about Yuu feelings for Yami are still alive (and more important, Hikari own feelings for Yami are still alive), and until that point Yuu only are choosing her right now because Aya dumped him, this is the reason why Hikari in the WN recognized she is as coward as Yuu himself.

I liked the fact he only told her everything because Hikari asked for it. Be careful what you wish for. Hikari finally found the balls to make the correct questions. Sexual life of Yuu was/is still an intimate thing he was in his entire right to hold it in privacy but if Hikari DIRECTLY questioned him about it and also letting clear she was questioning that, because she wants know if Yuu really loves her and if he also really loved "Aya-chan"
Yet, he still decided to stick his dick in crazy in the meantime. If he had moved on from Hikari, that would be completely fine
He was trying to move on from Hikari and the WN leaves very clear Hikari is aware of all this thing of "if Aya-chan wouldn´t have broke up with him, I wouldn´t be here in first place", in that scenary Hikari simply would be the typical childhood friend who supports the relationship of the MC with the FMC of any typical romcom.
the mentally ill crazy prostitute
More respect for the best friend of Hikari. Your goddess won´t like you talk in those terms about her (maybe ex) best friend. It was Hikari who decided befriend with precisely THAT GIRL was a good idea, knowing "Yami-sama" historial in a way Yuu was not remotely aware before the moment both Ayami and him are naked in the bed of that love hotel
And also this Hikari decision to try to save "Aya-chan" is the only reason why all this trainwreck happened in this place, because Yami probably would have changed from school and far away definitely from Yuu, as he thought she would do it, if it wasn´t for Hikari intervention
He had the audacity to confess to her after getting dumped by Yami
Anyway, he recognized it in his LINE messages to Hikari in chapter 44 he is fully aware he chose a very bad moment to finally confess it just after being officially dumped by Yami. This is the reason why he apologized with her in first place. And again, Hikari proves she only can be merciful after the other person assumes the entire responsibility from the events, as I already foreshadowed it.

Oh yeah, this was supposed to be a romance Manga right? Forgot about that
Romance manga? Who would even have been the male and female leads for the main romance pair then?
Are you sure you aren't gaslit by the Mandela effect?

That was an inpressively mature and honest conversation.

And at the end of it, they should get up and walk away, still back-to-back. Go out and apply what they've learned to new relationships that they can make healthy from the start rather than a relationship that's already been poisoned.

As if....

Wouldn't that actually put her in a tight spot? Because she knows she would've rejected him back then, she said as much in chapter 17.
