Same, like I started reading the novel to backfill arguments that I thought the manga made clear. I think the manga has for the most part kept all the important stuff.

Tangentially related, I think Maruto did a good job of writing Yuu into a corner where, through his own actions, he's not gonna be able to convince either girl that she's the one he really wants to be with. Mostly cause it's still not clear who he would choose if he truly believed he had a chance with both.
Cause hes a big Ole pussy and has been from day 1. Big fuckin pussy.

Kinda but not really? Like the problem is he's not honest about which girl he truly wants to be with, which to be fair I don't think he's sorted out for himself. In this chapter he makes it seem like he was trying to save Aya for Hikari, but he's also willing to throw Hikari away to do so. And it's like ??? Is this all a great act of love for Hikari? For Aya? ETA: which going to the previous paragraph, Aya doesn't want a Yuu who is only w/ her to save her b/c it's what Hikari wants.
Yeah, I think you are right about the ball being on Yuu's rooftop. Both Hikari and Aya want him to choose one, no remorse or feelings left behind. And proably chapter 54-55 is going to be the one where he will have to put his big boy pants on and choose for real.

Here is the thing. For what others have commented in the past, it seems also of this author apparently choosing the most over dramatic outcomes because not having a character finally grow and get the reins of their life is something he likes. I wouldn't be surprised if he decided to do the "I can't choose between them" and then let him have do the virgin walk into adulthood and then have a compilation of him being a corporate slave and eating konbini bentos while chugging beers in trunks in his pigsty of an apartment and jacking off to his memories of Aya.

Which that would be the worst and most formulaic ending because everything having real life setup lately seems to be this I'm a shitstain of a humang being, woe is me, I hate my life reality stench (we get it guys, Oyasumi Punpun was a milestone, but come the fuck on).

I would legit be satisfied with him ending going out with Seki Nadeko. As much as I have clowned about her, it would be a far more interesting ending than becoming Beta McDepression in case he doesn't choose one of the main girls. Heck, even one of Aya and Hikari's friends would be fine to me.

Hikari, have you finally decided to ditch these chumps? Probably not but I wish she would.

Tbh I think Yuu jerking off, sad and alone, in his shitty apartment would be a fitting ending, maybe after he and Aya break up due to her letting all his coworkers run a train on her, meanwhile Hikari living in blissful ignorance with chad husband.

They have too much sense and like Hikari too much to be interested in Yuu. Seki has a boyfriend and I think is more interested in teasing Yuu than dating him.

then let him have do the virgin walk into adulthood
Maruto's already established a pattern - Yuu agrees to a string of setups and convienient girlfriends he's hoping will help him fall out of love with Hikari/over Aya. Maybe he gets a happyish ending where he settles or maybe there's a time skip and he's learned something and Hikari/Aya's open to giving him another shot.

Or maybe Hikari manages to convince Aya that Aya is who Yuu really wants b/c Yuu was willing to throw Hikari away, but I'm skeptical b/c Yuu already told Aya this and Aya didn't find him convincing.

Actually forget my last comment I think Hikari is going to crash out about how aya has been pushing her feelings away for silly shit. Omari is due for a crash out and the only reason she didn’t flip on Yu was because he was crying. She seemed bitter that he was crying about her and it seems like that gave her the “ick” I think she finds aya and gives her an ultimatum and finally express herself yelling. She crashed out on Yu but aya deserves to be called out even more. None of this would happened if she didn’t kiss Yu and I think that will be what Hikari talks about. But I only see this ending in two ways. 1.) Hikari prioritizes aya over yu and they become friends while yu is the odd man out 2.) no one is going to be friends and everyone agrees to give each other time apart for a mental reset and the story gets a time skip
I think the victor is decided is about Yuu loving Hikari more, that Aya thinks Hikari is the winner of Yuu's affections. She knows he's not with Hikari b/c in 51 he offers himself to her and she asks if she can have him for herself.

The author fucked yo not giving us yu thought and pov. I don’t even know who he likes more I mean he tried to get over aya but she kissed him a required his brain. Ever since that kiss it’s been odd but he still confessed to Omari and when Hikari came to his house to talk he says he still like Hikari but he told Shane want her. It’s confusing because I wanna say it’s if of character but Yu is barely a character.

What pattern? You see, you're just spouting nonsense with no textual basis. Yuu never accepted "convenient girlfriends" (and he fell in love with Ayami by the same reasons Hikari also did after), and the fact that he only went on a date with Seki after she harassed and insisted proves it, when she would have been a "conveniently easy" escape at a time when Hikari was just seriously taking her first steps toward Taa-kun.
Thank goodness you finally realized that Maruto designed Seki to be the slut girl with multiple boyfriends that this forum thinks Yami is.
Anyway, this thread has been another festival of misandrist mockery at the expense of the poor boy and validating Hikari's SELFISHNESS, who still hasn't done a single truly selfless thing regarding Yuu —while she's capable of disappearing to actively search for the "best friend" who didn't hesitate to betray her in the past.
More than ever, I raise a glass to Yuki Hirai's victory.

If this were the planned ending for Yuu, Maruto would have made him far more despicable and pathetic than he has done with him. He's way too far from being the Haruki of Closing Chapter. More points for Yuki towards victory. Incidentally, for a character who has every chance of dying a virgin without ever finding another guy, there's Hikari herself, just like what happened with Eriri in the movie Saekano, being a spinster virgin still sighing for the MC.

What did you expect from a protagonist based on this boy? Izumi and Takamura are probably two of the few male leads in the entire modern anime history who have been really pegged in some point of their lives.
This is the Heir of Haruki Kitahara who caught the imagination of Maruto, my brothers!

Thanks, I hate it. I just want these kids learn and grow in the end, man. They don't even have to have a life in common or the ultra positivity of sol comedies.

Or go full steam ahead and make School Days look like the booklet a couple therapist gives after a consultation. That would be very funny.

Which means that as of chapter 50 she didn't think that Hikari won't have him.
We could theorize about why she ends up rejecting him, but at no point does she say or think that she is a consolation prize. Same with Hikari.
Kinda but not really? Like the problem is he's not honest about which girl he truly wants to be with, which to be fair I don't think he's sorted out for himself.
So you agree in the end? Because he is honest with both about caring about the other as well. And having to make a choice must be painful for him, since that would lead to hurting the other girl, and even once he actually made a choice, it only led to rejection.
All of which is not a great thing about him, of course, but I was only talking about honesty.
ETA: which going to the previous paragraph, Aya doesn't want a Yuu who is only w/ her to save her b/c it's what Hikari wants.
This makes more sense to me, could be at least a part of what she thinks.

Yuu never accepted "convenient girlfriends"
Hikari thinks he did:
@chap 12 said:
Back then, every time he'd go through these little trial runs and breakups, I'd get all annoyed, like, Ugh, get it together already!
But now, knowing he's still doing these little trial runs...

I mean, yeah, I'm still thinking, Get it together already! But this time, it's more like, Don't string them along, just turn them down

Aya calls Yuu scum b/c she feels like Yuu strung her along by not letting go of Hikari, and, like you said, he only said no to Seki cause he thought he might have a real chance w/ Hikari b/c Hikari was putting the moves on him.

The artist thought he was gonna draw a simple romance manga between childhood friends and ended up trapped drawing a cheap bait-and-switch NTR drama soap from the author of White Album 2.
Oh, poor him. Instead of drawing a generic romcom #402395, he was blindsided (actually, not) into drawing something impactful under the pen of one of his favorite writers.

Victor in Yuu's feelings isn't the same as person who has Yuu is the story of Aya and Yuu's relationship and why Aya calls Yuu scum. It's also why in 51 Aya thinks Aya can have Yuu and also why neither girl wants Yuu at this point.

This makes more sense to me, could be at least a part of what she thinks
I think giving Yuu to Aya is a flavor of Hikari won't have/doesn't want Yuu. Which right, on Hikari's part she knows it might just be a way to stave off rejection, but Aya doesn't know that. Legit half this manga makes me want to write a "what X believes, what Y thinks X believes" table b/c, as with most dramas, it's the second order stuff that gets them all tripped up.

Because he is honest with both about caring about the other as well
Eh, feels a bit like he's trying to have it both ways by saving Aya for Hikari. Which also, both girls are fine w/ him caring about her best friend, what he's not being honest about (again cause I don't think he even knows) is which girl he really wants his happily ever after with.

Hikari proving again she's the best character in this story. Yuu's resolve to throw everything away to bring back Ayami was half hearted and too selfish. Ayami saw thru that. Comes back crying to his light, Hikari just like in their younger days. He knows Hikari is the only one who can do it. Even if it means breaking Hikari's heart seeing Yuu, the boy she loves, cry over Ayami. She loves them both and is sacrificing her own light, her happiness to help them. She's too good for them and they know it. But she'll do it anyway because she's their friend
She's the worst character of the three. She might be the best person among them, but she's most certainly the worst character as well.

I think what could actually influence her choice is the thought that this is urged by Hikari instead of being his own decision. It's not about giving him to her (which would be about "saving her" rather than getting them back together anyway), but about it not being completely his own decision.
what he's not being honest about (again cause I don't think he even knows) is which girl he really wants his happily ever after with.
Well, sure, I was talking about the honesty where he doesn't lie and doesn't try to hide things. If the extended definition also includes being able to make the choice he needs to make then okay, he is not completely honest.

He did say he would sacrifice his relationship with both of them to get them back together as friends which was cowardly in a way ig? (Hikari says she doesn’t want him to sacrifice himself and call him a coward for that) so he hasn’t really been moving how he wants if Hikari sent him to get her

So you're saying they're providing contradictory information between versions now, because I don't feel like that's something you could reasonably conclude from how things are presented in this version.
What a shitshow.
You can see Hikari clearly smile at the end of page 8
