I feel overrated when @Manko-sensei or @DavidianMillerian say it, but I thing overall it's really just some niche that not many people enjoy it. I mean not like yaoi that the fangirl promoted and talk about it, I just never found someone talk and promote about yuri.

I'm happy to recommend stuff when I'm asked for, but there's no need to be overbearing about it, it's the kind of material to chill and relax (even the spiciest ones). No genre or series is for everyone in manga, and even if I meet people IRL and talk about yuri we don't do parades or show off like other fandoms, you'd be surprised that's not that hard to find people that are dressed up from head to toe with ahegao clothes on the streets. Of course, it's far more common finding people wearing the main shonen series merchandising, specially T-shirts, or in conventions yaoi signs. The main reasons why yuri will remain less popular than most genres are: female protagonist, some degree of romance, less action/fights/violence than average, no self-insert (from the reader), specific jargon, misogyny and homophobia. There's no need to force yourself to read it, and it's not a genre that you appreaciate from the start.
PS: like all genres, there are always readers that confuse fiction with reality.

nah, it's shipping culture, which in itself is a byproduct of alot of these works.

yeah, live and let live as they say, so long as you can communicate your disdain for it in a reasonable manner and still act as "the bigger man" (which in this situation, is quite humorous, both because of the subject matter AND also cause it's like read by 90% of guys) it's cool.
