alot to unpack this (finally full, been waiting on the second half for like months) chapter. thank you for your continued work!

Chiffon drawing line in the sand with Alisha becoming only a servant to her is strange, hasnt Alisha earned the right to be both friend and servant again? makes it seem like being friends is what twisted Alisha to become so arrogant

get rid of one evil old man, another more handsome one takes his place :notlikethis: oh well, Green Vale thinks has upper hand, while he has no idea how any of it was built, and already looks down on crafters who are the backbone of the whole operation
Regarding Alisha, that's exactly what they're saying. Alisha was too close to the Princess in order to do her Actual Job effectively, and let her pride in her POSITION and comfort around the Princess overrule her pride in her WORK.

The princess is basically saying 'We aren't going to be friends anymore, because you've got too much career potential for me to be willing to let friendship bias screw over your long term prospects. Join me back as JUST a servant, and we'll keep the relationship at arms' length so you can focus,' which Alisha accepted because deep down, she IS very proud of her skill, and realized 'my affection for the Princess as a person IS screwing me over, I need to kill that part of me and focus on doing the job I'm so proud of better.'

In short, it's a Very Very Japanese Culture thing. Sacrifice personal happiness for the sake of the many. Become Robot, Only Work. Alisha and Princess both want Alisha to just Be A Robot.

but like that's the thing, Alisha never wanted to be a maid, it was forced on her as 1 of 2 options. she had to kill her heart to do it and she only regained one by being close with Chiffon.

feels like they throwing away her growth as a person (becoming humble and not looking down on others perceived as "lower") which would benefit Chiffon as a close friend/servant, to have her be just another plain maid like all the others, albeit without a stuck up attitude

Alisha would be happier staying with Miyabi if she could ever get over herself. I think her personality still needs some work tbh

By all means take a copy of the plans and start planning out your respective tunnels. Without Miyabi or the Berdini crafters, they will be in production hell for the better part of a decade as they try to piece together their own engine and rail cars.

While they struggle with that, Miyabi will be chunking out a four to six rail lines, a year, complete with regional station and locomotive. So all the half priced iron is going to do is speed things along rather nicely for Berdini backed projects.

And as an aside, i wonder how long it will take to bankrupt Duke Green Vale? He still has to buy all that iron for full price, even if he recovers half it's value. Miyabi is still going to be burning thrue their supplies with astonishing speed. So I wonder which breaks first, the supply of iron or the Green Vale bank account.
His territory is a trade hub and it's noticeably more wealthy than Angellum.

Taking that loss in the short term would let him hurt Beldini for a longer time than not.

The only issue the builders of other regions would have is with the creation of the tunnels.

Track laying shouldn't be an issue, as they already have the system for it with Minecart.

And because of the Duke, the process of building the Engine and the Cars can be achieved by any group of Crafters & Smiths (i mean a newbie like Karen was able to achieve it, though minus the mana capacity issue).

Keep, in mind, that Crafting is apparently quite a common Job in that world with hundreds or even thousands of people possessing it.
But because the concept of "train to get better in your Job" isn't known to the people, its causing the Crafters to not be able to do any decent work and only do low level work (like fixing fortress walls in dangerous conditions).

So, while the whole process would be slower than under MC's supervision, the other regions should still be able to eventually get it set in a decent time.

Also the Duke was clearly being careful on not informing anyone about the existence of MC and his capabilities, and didn't inform anyone on how long the project took to complete. Meaning that, even if say it took the other regions to do the work in 5 years, it would still be a decent speed and considered fast.

Because of this its highly likely that the Duke won't be be asking MC to work on creating any new routes for other regions.
Even if he does ask him, it would primarily be for creating the tunnel (which technically any Crafters could do, if they train and increase their Mining abilities and Storage size, like how Karen did with her storage). And all the other aspects like creating the train to laying the tracks would be handled by the Crafters and Smiths (i mean, MC only worked on laying the tracks and creating the Stations, primarily because they were short on time as the deadline was approaching fast).

In the end, what the Duke wanted was to increase the prestige and scope of Crafters in the world as they are looked down upon by everyone without getting a chance to prove their worth. And with the underground railway system, which definitely needs atleast one Crafter, it is going to increase their value, even if it takes time for people to build the system itself.

In the real world one or more of the hundreds of labourers would be happy to sell Miyabi out for some money. Unlikely in this series though
That might be the case here as well.
But the thing is, people would probably think that if a Crafter like MC can achieve things like that, then even other Crafters could do it.
This might focus on making Crafters develop more.

But the things that the others lack are the Ideas & Knowledge that MC has.
And the number of people who know that MC was the brains behind the project is actually quite low.
Primarily the Duke and the Guild Masters, and the people from the Dwarf Smiths.
No one else should know that MC was the brain of the operation.

The duke asked MC to refrain from production for this project. The laborers know he's great at digging and making meals. The technical knowledge has been made public and will be refined, so there is no value in capturing MC for this information.

The MC has a crazy inventory, but crafting is an undeveloped aspect in the broader setting so no one has considered using the MC as a cost-cutting mule. His processing skills and construction speed are literal haxx but I don't think the laborers are aware.

So yes, someone could sell him out but it seems like infosec was almost properly done.

No, I completely agree, I'm just explaining what I see of the logic. I dislike it, personally, but that's what I'm registering.

Spoiler for Next Chapter.
Liz & MC continue doing their Adventurer Work, both of them decide to buy a base, and meet the Guildmaster of the Merchant's Guild, who sells them a broken house for a low price, but it turns out that the house is called the "Mansion of Lamentation".
Also, for some reason, Karen applies for transfer to the Merchant's Guild.

O . o

And where do you see that? We've seen a few locations around Angellum, but that's mainly because it's Miyabi's base of operations. Even looking back to the Green Vale's seat of power, the Water city Noctira looks just as bit as developed and affluent.

The Capital OTOH, looks to be in similar standings. Even a location that was destroyed less then a decade ago is now an idealic Suburban. So if it looks like Angellum is more developed then the Capital, blame the mangaka for getting lazy with the illustrations rather then Berdini for managing his territory better then the Royals.

In various ways, matters are finally coming to a close. We've also finally caught up to UToon.

I've sure missed Liz's common sense.

It feels like Chiffon could have just...talked to Alicia, but I guess that's not in her family's nature, considering her dad turned a scheme into entertainment.
Kind of a bummer that we're losing that prospective frontliner for our party though. Speaking of which, Liz should hop on that train and do a quest soon.

Iron rail competitions, huh? I feel like a mine is superior to a foreign contract for a lot of reasons, and it is practically impossible to lose an economics war with Miyabi in their back pocket.
Come to think of it, I wonder if Miyabi can dismantle garbage into recycled raw materials? Like if he went to a scrapyard and stored rusty metal in his inventory, could he harvest everything under the surface back into ingots or even extract the oxygen?

The only issue the builders of other regions would have is with the creation of the tunnels.
Tunnel work is being done by masons and farmers. The crafters are all focused on the laying track or developing the locomotive and cars.
Track laying shouldn't be an issue, as they already have the system for it with Minecart.
A track that carries hundreds of lbs in minecarts is one thing and a track that carries tones with a locomotive is quite another beast. They are about as similar as a house cat is to a mountain lion.
And because of the Duke, the process of building the Engine and the Cars can be achieved by any group of Crafters & Smiths (i mean a newbie like Karen was able to achieve it, though minus the mana capacity issue).
Karen is quite the special case. A year before the project ever came up, Miyabi taught her how to train her crafting skills. That with all the pressure put on her from the bathroom project and the winter green houses has made her more capable then the assistant she was before. Conversely dumping that load on a random Craftsmen job holder will only see them collapse in despondent ineptitude.
And other nobles will suddenly ignore a thousand year for precedence because their competitor claims that's how it was accomplished? More like they would believe that it's misinformation and try using existing methods to accomplish things in their own way.
So, while the whole process would be slower than under MC's supervision, the other regions should still be able to eventually get it set in a decent time.
Not just slower, but likely to be doomed to failure. Not only because people with mining experience can't be brought in, but because of all the extra little things Miyabi does to make it possible. Ignoring for a moment his ability to dig at walking speed, don't underestimate the power of good food and comfortable living and working conditions makes to a workforce.

Then even before you consider Miyabi's thinking process, you need to look at the game like mechanics that fundamentally change how he operates. Sure many miners might be able to make a straight and level tunnel, but could they do it at walking speed while storing the harvested materials at the same time?

Just train a crafter to do it you say? Pft... what insanity are you speaking. Even if they nobles believed it possible, it would take decades even for Karen to build up the capacity let alone some other noble's neglected and woefully trained wall repair crew.

Also the Duke was clearly being careful on not informing anyone about the existence of MC and his capabilities, and didn't inform anyone on how long the project took to complete. Meaning that, even if say it took the other regions to do the work in 5 years, it would still be a decent speed and considered fast.
O . o;
We reading the same manga? Because Duke Green Vale had the jumpedup tailor leak all the details to him in preparation for the ambush they attempted to pull on Duke Berdini.

So they know not only who is the architect, but also the main craftsmen behind the train tunnel plan. They know when it was proposed, when the concept was approved, and when they broke ground on the first tunnel and laid the first track. Giorgi was present at all the major presentations, and leaked it all to Green Vale.
Nope, not any crafter could dig a tunnel at any speed that mattered. And training one would take decades. As I point out above, stone masons and farmers are being used to expand the tunnels Miyabi is digging. He is also collecting and processing the materials they and he are excavating and turning it into building materials for the tunnel walls. Sure other noble could just throw more workers at a project, but the loss in quality and working conditions would effectively kill any other project not led by Miyabi or a specialist team trained by him.
Thing is, it will take decades for such a crafter to be trained up. Even the Third Prince, who is best placed to benefit from family connections was left untrained and neglected, so I would doubt there would be more then a handful of individuals scattered accrossed the kingdom who could even store a broom closets worth of materials, left alone properly construct said broom closet with their skills.

So while I agree Duke Berdini's goals have merit, they are long term goals that will take decades to bare fruit.

Maybe there's a cultural difference here or something got lost in translation, but to me, it doesn't seem like Chiffon is all that good of a friend or master to Alisha. I know they say that they're going with a strict master-servant relationship this time around, but they were supposedly friends before this.

It kind of seems like Chiffon just dumped Alisha without a second thought as soon as Liz could act as a replacement. Did Chiffon even give Alisha an explanation for why she was being dismissed (and if/how she might return)? If Alisha hadn't conveniently improved herself by this time, would Chiffon have even bothered to check in to see how her former "friend" was doing?

No, it's not just you. Their entire conflict handled pretty badly and actually ends up delivering a pretty bad characterization for Chiffon. She pretty much solidified that she is only after scheming and using other people as the next head of her house, just like her father. I said this when she first appeared as well but Alisha's fuck ups are more on the duke and her family than anyone else. If they wanted a literal robot for a maid, they should have trained her as such instead of letting her run free till she hit a wall.

Chiffon don't need any emotional closeness as she could have easily talked with Alisha (who were just inserted into this position when she was a literal toddler) but i don't think she has the mental facilities to undertake such an ordeal. She is just good at using people. She is like this with the 3rd prince as well, desperately trying to mold him into someone useful.

As you might have guessed, I highly dislike these people as they pretty much overtook the entire story (and Miyabi's agency) for the last 30 chapters. Miyabi also doesn't make things any easier other than proving time and time again that he is just a useful idiot who has no idea how the world works. And has no intention to learn. It's like there are two different stories stitched together with a bandaid. One side has the ruthless cutthroat nobleman trying to out maneuver each other and we suddenly cut to the happy go lucky MC acting like a 9 yo on ritalin ignoring everything going on around him despite it is his neck the duke's been playing with. But if the owner of the said neck doesn't care so why would the Duke i guess? Just a useful tool. If he thought Miyabi could work just as effectively while imprisoned, you can be %100 sure he would put him on ball and chains and stuff him in some dungeon in 10 minutes. But since he knows that he can't, he is playing nice.

The reason for the railroad was for Miyabi to be able to meet with Liz who was attending the academy which was offered by Chiffon in form of free scholarship in order to break them up so they could completely isolate and control Miyabi easier. They have more or less been MASSIVELY successful at that since Miyabi still has absolutely zero idea what is going on and the actual danger he is in if the word ever gets out that he is the idea guy behind all of this. And i'm %100 it will get out.

It always gets me how Mel is always 100% onboard with Miyabi's craziness. She even seems to take it more seriously than he does sometimes.

Also imagine telling your kids one day that their father revolutionized trade and transportation for the kingdom just so you could renew your adventurer license. If that's not love, what is?
