It's is a pretty vague statement, that allows a lot to be read into it. But I would just take it at face value, miso soup is generally a homemade morning meal eaten at home. So after this heartfelt reunion he misses having a home/family too. In 45 chapters, we haven't heard a lick of his personal life outside of his old job. The only real "goal" is Ch1 Page 27, to live in a home he built, and relax and spend time with his family.

If you haven't read Maison Ikkoku, miso is related to the marriage proposal in the story, but that's taking it way too far imo.
