More like MC-kun's a mirror that takes on the morality of those before him. Illyas was the best choice since she's the most "justice" oriented person he knows, but Wolfie and Lacra would have been his next choices for cheek smooshing.

...Also, I notice the harem tag's been removed for some reason. While romance and fanservice is not the main point of this series you'll see very later on that this is very much a harem with the girls even conversing among themselves this as a somewhat forgone conclusion and is just waiting who'd be the first to the finish line, in a matter of speaking.
