@Doenyon probably because torture and killing are 'direct' methods that while brutal are expressly used in order to achieve justice. Evil must be punished and fought using any method, even if it means spilling blood. On the other hand, deception and manipulation are shady methods that someone who follows the chivalry code will not approve because it requires lying (for a knight, their word is important as it's an expression of their honor)

It's not chivalric to throw someone in the dungeon for no reason, harass and smack them around when they try to sleep then force them to help you on dangerous missions and then complain that they aren't doing their job right even though said person can't even do the job at all.

Look u stupid authors, you don't need to create OP Main Characters, the ones with brain are good enough, actually even better than your dumb Main Characters of you stupid isekai stories.

Oh. I thought that he was going to be the cliche *I want a peaceful life* beta trash MC but this one seems to understand what trying to live peacefully in this twisted world entertains.

I'm surprised I didn't know about this series long before. I was skeptical at first during the first chapter since it did feel pretty rushed without providing much details on the who, what, where, and why which made it a bit hard to understand what is actually going on in the story. But reading this second chapter got me hooked. It's not often you see an isekai series where the MC does not have any powers but instead uses his manipulative mind and understands what is going on. Personally looking forward to what the story has to offer in the future. Hopefully the questions I had during the first chapter would be answered in the future.

To be honest, I'm just glad that we didn't get the usual MC gets some seemingly underpowered, secretly OP skill, saves cute girl/ passing by merchant from monsters, is led to a city, becomes and adventurer, etc. Also, I like the temple waifu, hopefully we get to see some more action with her

Understanding evil is easy when you understand it doesn't exist in the cartoon sense we give it.

@Phelix yeah, because evil does not always exist out of intent, but out of selfishness. They want to archive something and are ready to step over other people or do not even notice how they are stepping on other people to climb.
Is that random guy in nigeria evil for scamming people out of money to enrich himself? How about a coal mining buisenessman that just bought a machine to replace many of his workers? What about something like facebook selling you as the product to advertisers?
Subjective evil rarely exists and is always a question of POV.

P.S. Most people would say: Evil, Not evil, not evil, but shady.

I love this MC with his evil methods. He wants to understand evil, to fight evil.
Which reminds me of this:
"He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And if you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss also gazes into you." -Friedrich Nietzsche

@Not_Just_A_Reader You might've just mispook, so forgive me, but I will correct you and say that there is nothing but Subjective Evil. It's all just perspective, or as you put it, POV.

I agree with the rest in the right context, and will add that Evil can be born out Selfishness the same way it can come from Selflessness.
