I imagine it's the latter, but since they didn't know that magic guns were made from normal guns, no one thought to try it, including Ryoji.

That aside, I really like that the Gunner job has an actual downside like that, where they're both (seemingly) even more limited on weapon options than other jobs and essentially have a fixed attack power; it'd be an absolutely busted job otherwise.

Think both need to happen. The weapon needs to be absorbed for the dungeon to create a pattern for the object, and living organisms need to die to give the dungeon the needed energy to form them.

I would guess the dungeon does start with some power to generate mobs, obstacles, and bait. But something like advanced weapons would need additional locally sourced energy to be created.

Gunner is similar to the Archer profession. Both are ranged classes that used consumable projectiles. Both are near equally useless once their ammunition runs out.

The major differences are that archer's requires more training to reach an equal competency, though that is offset by the strength and dexterity gained to effectively use there weapon.

Gunner's OTOH require less training, generally have more innately powerful weapons, and gain less stats as a result of training with their weapons. Thought this does allow them to pickup more secondary skills to augment their primary class.
