I'm surprised no one is talking about the coffee cup. That immediately took me out of the story. Drawing a cup isn't that hard, but it looks like they just threw a random jpeg of a coffee cup in there and it looks horrible.

Mangaka is following the much less popular "tell, don't show" rule.

Looks like the author really think of Rumi as the MC's pet dog. Always jumping in to defend him, worshipping him without reason, relying on him to take every decision... She's not a character, she's a foil to make the MC look better. This girl that we're told in the first chapters is popular, beautiful, smart, strong, etc... somehow can't stop to gush about how great the MC is, how he could do anything, yada yada... and needs his approval for doing anything.

She's not a foil she's a fantasy. Their roles are pretty complimentary. He has very little power but can link himself to others, and she has a ton of power but he's very little control of it. If there was some kind of vulnerability aspect to it it would be pretty solid. Like if they both get more powerful but they can sense each other's emotions or become each other's weakness. Maybe damage sharing to show the trust aspect that comes along with sharing powers with someone. So with good writing there's a good synergy there.

The issue is that a lot of manga is just a fantasy for high school boys with no experience. Even leaving aside her worshipping the ground he walks on he just stands there and acts like he's above it. He's just too cool to really nip this in the bud and call out this weirdo for treating his friend and companion like property.

Instead SHE'S the one trying to protect HIM. She's not even a character just an accessory. She might as well just be a sexy familiar instead of a woman. All she's done is basically draw these dumbasses attention to the MC and tell MC how cool he is. I mean I haven't seen him do anything really cool, or be particularly awesome towards her, and he just acts like a shy weirdo despite everything they've been through.

In reality no one listens to assholes like this because they're unlikable and violent. When they do weird shit like blatantly obssess about girls around them they place themselves as societal outcasts. They don't have the social credit to pull shit off like this, no matter how much the rest of the class are fearful cattle.
