But isn't geometric is essentially visualization of math?
Depends on what you mean by visualization. As graphing IS one way of solving problems that uses graphing paper, rulers, and protractors instead of say calculus.

I look at it as just branches of a tree. Like how physics is just a specialization of mathematics.
Arithmetic is just basic math to me like grouping, and counting, and addition/subtraction. Algebra includes variables, and simple operations to manipulate them and solve. Calculus has integrals and derivatives to help with summation of complicated structures. And geometry and trigonometry is more focused on the properties of angles, symmetry, shapes and their relations.

The author is using arithmetic and math as the same thing. What he means is (high school) arithmetic, which would include all math up to the high school lvl (i.e. everything in the previous paragraph).

@CraniumAmbiguity they probably didn't even know what geometry is or just forget about it (as do I am). they only knew mathematics + drawing = magic. like in that last one where they didn't know how to calculate circle.

Tetra also said it was trial an error. so she might just random draw and random calculate then document the effect of each drawing.
I mean aren't experimenting is like that, do random thing then derive the theory from observation.

There is a reason for her high learning level besides being smart. Well, for her and everyone else in the village. And if things go wrong it could very well end up pretty bad and bloody for the MC or something worse.

@mahtan
Is almost impossible for a man to learn any magic besides basic protection agains voodo. It could take decades to get to the point a woman could get in a couple of years or less.
Lazy would be the author ignore completely ignoring the rules he himself set.

The point I was getting at was:
1)the fact that "arithmetic" was necessary to make sorcery, suggests that small variations in angle and distance is significant in the output.
2) The final symbol for a simple spell is complicated.
3) it took less than 3 years for her to figure out enough to make that spell.
Like imagine if one of those lines was a fraction of an inch off in spacing and that made the whole symbol inert. How long should I make this line? Does it's direction matter to the caster? If i draw another line same questions but what about it's position spacing, and direction to the other? Do I draw shapes? How many, what kind, how big, and where? What about writing text? what do you say and where?

And what if 99% of all this resulted in nothing happening (inert) because of that change/variation.

"https://mangadex.org/title/20723/witch-hat-atelier"'s circle magic is a good example of these nuances.

Could you build your computer from scratch (from the integrated circuit lvl) through trial and error in 3 years?

While it makes no sense that women can learn it while man can't, or in this case have a really hard time doing so, there is no reason for him to not be learning it even if he can't actually use it.
To know how to fight something you need to know how that something works.

Tetra is embarrassed to be seen naked but she tried to give Almus a turbo aphrodisiac. What did she think was going to happen if she had succeeded?

At least they a way to make certain they get more goats.

Well, she did invite him to have a closer look. Perhaps her embarrassment was a calculated stimulus. Girls are cute when they act shy too you know.

No, they did learn the theory and basic protection technique. The manga just glossed over a lot of details

The nerd in me rages just a bit when I see how the word ‘arithmetic’ is being used. I’m sure it took other forms of maths as well to create such a formula.

@CraniumAmbiguity point accepted, but think of it as those analog electric circuit, you can always connect something with something and put power on it to see what happen, then you reason out using what knowledge you have, this time it was arithmetic. That's why Tetra circuit looks complicated for a "light" vodoo. (the last one was just my justifying the plot tho)

Did they ever go that far? What was clearly stated that out of 10 people with potential, 9 would be women. Yet there are also vast individual differences, so many of those 9 women wouldn't find it worth it. The same would apply to that single man, so you would need far more than just 10 people to find a man with reasonable potential. It doesn't mean every single male hoodoo would be doomed to pitiful results. It's just statistically unlikely to find male hoodoos worth anything. Consequently it would also mean most wouldn't even bother trying.
