Now why couldn't the author have thrown in a lightsaber, a most elegant weapon, instead of something like this????

....Honestly despite reading the story I have no clue. Since the beginning of the refugee story this has been different from the original story.

Originally they manage to hide the first group entirely and the second the MC had NOTHING to do with, his subordinates did some work and got in trouble for it and then they settled out of court basically purely to take care for the 1/100 chance Rigel could have at least gotten two of Almus' subordinates heads from it before having to pay up. Then Almus basically waffles for a few more chapters while his subordinates chisel away at Rigel's strength before going to war and taking out Rigel in one fell swoop. Though HE doesn't kill rigel, he found him a bit too pathetic and then someone else agrees and deals with him quite cruelly before Almus can take him back and execute him or something.

@Darkblaze6

This is the man who has only two stories about him, his incredible strength and his SHITTING HIMSELF in every battle he's not winning. He's pretty much literally Ares, the greek crybaby of war.

Don't the blessing of Kings depend on how many people follow for it's effect?
Given how everyone hates Diabel shouldn't his blessing be trash?

Regarding WhimsiCat's spoilers:
And I was so sure he'd use poisen or another unhanded method. It sucks, that MC is going to spare his life by mistake. That Dibel guy won't let that rest and other people will die because of it.

Seems the manga writers are rushing the story a bit, since this duel wasn't present in the novel,
they settled Dibel's issue in another way, first there was a civil war between the two territories because of a salt mine discovered on the border, then the MC used all sorts of underhanded methods to make Rigar Dibel even more unpopular and even caused this Bernard guy to betray him and then the fairies found Dibel not fun anymore and since he lost his last loyal man he got his head exploded.
But here they implemented this duel for some reason...

@mahtan he still have people that are loyal to him, even though they are most probably just as corrupt as he is
so, the worse the nation's state is, the stronger he is

Wouldn't the number of people be more important?
My point was that I don't see many people being loyal to Diabel, at least not more people than there is to the MC. Unless I missunderstood the blessing and how loyal the person is also has an effect.

So about that fight...

Almus played Rigar like a fiddle. His swordplay is highly aggressive which makes it seem like Almus is always on the defensive... except that was Almus' plan. Rigar never paced himself and after goading him further by looking to impress Yuria, he basically fucked up and Almus broke his sword and almost cut his head off.

He just pretty much looked like a dried up husk after nearly experiencing death and Yuria declared Almus the winner.

Some of you are hating on the "cliche villain" like you've never stepped out of your house and met stupid people, or had a stupid boss.

He's a meathead, got his position through force/battle, thinks with his crotch. He's surprisingly honest.
And personally, I like that. I'll keep my complicated villains for when I read Dostoievsky. Right now, I'm happy with an asshole we can safely hate and kill.
