@cor3zone you dont need a successor with good information control
you need a system established
attack on titan actually did a great piece on this in regards to the Marley Eldian relationship
but that's that, the rest would be me repeating myself

to respond to your other assertion
Suimei didnt tell any of these guys where he'd live, that he was joining an adventurers guild, let alone the nature of the escort mission
Hero kun only knows bc of this fool over here, unless im missing something, the issue is still lack of information on Hero kun's part
we also dont know if Hero kun was upset that Suimei left the capital, that he was used a decoy or both

i did mention it before but Hiroshima happened was a convenient excuse
so, i dunno, the idea that it was in any way a necessary evil or the prospect of leaving it to open debate seems ludicrous to me
ignoring what the implications mean for mother earth if we nuke russia and russia nukes back
the planet is fucked is what i mean, which contrary to you and @gaigous i dont think is ever worth
speaking of gaigous
so are you tellin me Suimei is weak? they really know how to mislead you with those earlier chapters

@MolaCola If the world is destroyed it won't be because I was living my life, as usual, that's for sure.

He's weak in comparison to the real threats out there, he's a frog in a well for the first couple volumes of the LN, the people of that world are embarrassingly weak, hence the title, other than races like Dragons who are born strong and a pseudo divinity like Lefille, there are some "crouching tigers", and to be honest, this is a horrible adaptation, the LN has some nice depth to it, but it's being completely squandered with this thing.

@gaigous no doubt
and Lefille have we met her? forgot most of the names already
i was kinda weirded out yknow in terms of power dynamics, he called those demons small fry, but clearly he was having difficulty
i dont really read LNs but i do like what you're describing

The power scaling in this manga is kinda weird. It's a little unusual to have an MC who can smash people's face in, but get his own face smashed in by someone stronger. Also, the names are weird. Is that girl not Grakis? Because wasn't Lefille the court mage (that just up and disappeared?)

The court mage is Felmenia Stingray, this swordswoman girl is Lefille Grakis.

@MolaCola Any established system is only as good as the person in control of it. If the successor is an imbecile, which is all too likely in both history and fiction, even the best system will eventually crumble.

MCs exact situation or knowledge of it isn't really all that relevant. The fact that they dragged a seemingly innocent and helpless person into their dangerous world and then failed to keep him safe, would be enough to eventually build resentment in the 'Hero'. He's naive and idealistic, a 'goody-two-shoes', but not dumb. Why bother helping these people in the long run, if they can't help keep his friend safe?

@cor3zone i mentioned the situation and knowledge of it to address your assertion that the Hero would go ballistic if he went back home to find Suimei wasn't there.
Suimei floated the idea that he was leaving and convinced Hero kun... yes he left the capital, but why does Hero kun know that he did?
hero kun only knows because of this mongoose flapping his goddam feathers everywhere, which he had no business doing
it was to counter the point that Hero kun would have found out MC left regardless and searched for him, a point you made earlier, which assumes way too much

an established system isnt as good as the person in control of it, its as good as the person/ people who made it. the system outlives its creator
how it tests the burdens of time is what depends on the person in control of it and irl that'd be the leadership, the government as well as the intelligence community.

let me give you an example we teach a very white-washed version of history, we no longer teach civics in most schools, ultimately the people grow up ignorant. These ignorant people grow up and take part in the workforce, contribute to society, some of whom become teachers become principals you get the point... youth become indoctrinated, grow up and then indoctrinate.
when you have an outlier, someone who is in favor of "rocking the boat" who gets rid of him? the government or the people? if you said government you'd be wrong
people who don't want their peace disturbed will get rid of their antagonist, regardless of how well meaning he is or thoughtful his plan for society is.

Regardless of who's in charge so long as you don't blow the place up sky high people will sheepishly follow this system
people like Macron wanted to replicate the U.S system, but the system put in place was not for that kind of unfettered corruption
as a result you have people who KNOW they are about to be fed a "shit sandwich" and are not okay with it. so you get protests of 90%+ on the street, which threaten the very structure of government;
this is a situation where the government fears the people not the other way around.

you'd have to be assuming that a leader is even worse than Trump and Bush and an even bigger trainwreck in framing policy decisions
not just that you'd have to assume the previous leadership knowingly passed the torch to this kind of individual (monarchy)
AND that the leader's advisers, supporting government body, intelligence community is full of idiots in the same exact position

yeah that doesn't happen 10/10 thats wishful thinking

@MolaCola My point about the 'Hero' eventually finding out anyway was based on the fact that at some point he's likely to return to the capital. At that point he would learn MC left because, well, MC would not be there. I was talking about when his 'task' was done, when the war was already won. I don't think he would just accept his friend is 'gone'.

We're getting into politics here, and this is not the place for that. I'll just say, even the 'best' (as in effective, not 'good') systems have cracks. I once heard from a Chinese national that just saying "6-4" is enough to bring 'tragedy' to their minds. Google it. Or North Korea, arguably the most 'successful' system of total population control, yet still people get out. Anyway, I'm done. Thanks for discussing with me.

Lefille is the priestess(heh) traveling with him atm(and best girl IMO), Suimei as a character has a very low opinion of his own capabilities, and a good portion of Suimei's backstory is explained in a later volume when his Hero friend finds out Suimei had been keeping secrets from him.

This adaption has almost no internal monologue in comparison to the LN, which means most of each character's thoughts are missing, the magic system is very comprehensive, but the majority of it is never explained because of the lack of internal monologue.

The magic that Suimei specializes in is strengthened by the stars of Earth, but that world has completely different constellations, so his magic isn't very powerful or fuel-efficient while there(by the standards of Earth magicians), thankfully there's plenty of mana in the nature of that world in comparison to Earth, and the demons are very resistant to forces other than those powered by faith/belief because of the evil gods energy(the demon's miasma) flowing through them.

if i was the hero i would just simply tell them that they sacrificed my friend, so now i will sacrifice their kingdom by simply allowing the demons to do whatever they want with it.
they deserve it for their treacherous behavior, they do not deserve to be saved.

@gaigous yo thats pretty neat, wait the priestess is traveling with him? does this happen later on?
as far as best girl no preferences yet @v@ Lefille is a kind person tho
@cor3zone eh when we are talking about systems of authority aint it natural to have some degree of politics as reference?
but my point is i think chapter 7 Suimei told Hero kun he was leaving sure he didnt say the capital
assuming that Hero kun would finish his journey Suimei would not be there would be assuming Suimei, who seems relatively perceptive and cognizant of Hero kun's dispositions, would have knowingly left on an escort mission that he wouldnt return from within a reasonable time frame
//this is assuming the shenanigans of late did not happen and the trip was smooth sailing

Lefille is the priestess(medium?) of Ashana or whatever the goddesses name is, she's half-spirit, the spirit being the goddesses servant or whatever, it's been a while since I've read the LN because J-Novel Club is taking too goddamn long to translate volume 9.

@VillageIdiot No that's too reasonable, just like they already invented the cure for cancer, someone is holding volume 9 hostage, I just know it!

@InfernalDrake117

Hey, thanks for the heads up! It's been awhile since I've read the LN and I was also wondering whose faction was the spunky dwarf girl, two-faced cat nun and battle crazy dragon guy belonged to... OP characters now somehow popping up like daisies in spring. Also explains why bastard duke can overpower heroes... Maybe that be one of the reasons why the author is in hiatus, eh? The rising escalation towards the end and all that

@savris No, the author has no idea why Overlap isn't releasing vol 9. He even finished the web novel version of it back in Dec 2018 before starting up a new web novel. Ironically, that new web novel got picked up by Enterbrain and it's being serialized this month in August.

@VillageIdiot Huh, So even the author has no clue? Maybe they looking up artists for the LN? The art looks rough though there has been improvements in the latest volumes... or maybe that's just Re:Monster's thing with all the artist swapping. Guess there's nothing else to do but wait and hope that Overlap releases it soon.

@savris Sam of J-Novel Club had said that he had spoken with Overlap who assured him that the series hasn't been dropped. He couldn't tell the reason to the fanbase other that the series is "cursed". The fanbase had interpreted this as meaning that its an artist issue again.

I highly doubt it'll get dropped either. 400k total sales as of last year (around 50k each volume, pretty good for a non-mainstream LN with no anime adaption for advertisement) for the LN and a recent reprint of the manga because it had sold out.

I actually prefer the old character designs. The girls all have the same faces now, lol.
