Roxanne has a really pleasant smile. So shiny.
Waking up every morning to a french kiss sounds nice in theory, but...morning breath?

Theory is nice, but not in practice. And you just kiss and nothing else? Like he just slept and nothing else? Im confident he's gay or missing some parts.

@orochijes It's not like they have great hygienic care in this world to begin with. I doubt morning breath is all that much worse than any-other-part-of-the-day breath.

@orochijes : Might seem a strange thing to mention... but while morning breath has a smell, it doesn't have much of a taste. They wanna snog in the morning, they probably won't notice anything amiss unless they're also sniffing.
O'course her sense of smell is sharper than his... but she is a submissive slave, plus who knows what her standards for acceptable smells are?

Feels strange to even mention this, but I guess not everyone has the first-hand experience to know.

@SotiCoto I'm just glad we're still able to hold decent conversations even in this kind of manga. Most of us anyway, once the holierthanthou leave the building (which I don't understand why they entered in the first place, but whatever).

@Tatherwood : I'm pretty sure everyone has at least one thing they get worked up about that most wouldn't care about.

I like to tell them their priorities are fucked up, but they probably opine the same of me.

We get it, her low self-esteem makes her attainable to the reader despite her appearance, yeesh.

Some of these """seinen""" mangaka don't know when to stop pandering and start writing their characters as something approaching actual people and it's like a cancer in the industry.

Damn MC is ruthless. He is basically going to run down human experimentation, while posing as a hero for his slave , and getting paid all the same.

@twinklecake her family had to sell her into slavery to pay taxes, and the only person that was nice to her was in danger. Dunno about self-esteem, but she has been openly described as submissive. Its ok to get salty, but don't act like this is out of character. I don't think this writing is the cancer in this industry. Not pointing fingers though.

@Denker-Bosu I never said it's out of character. It's entirely in character. Hell, it's most of what her personality is.

I'm saying she sucks on a permanent basis because she's a boring cardboard cutout and there's no life to her. I've seen better-written characters in hentai, and that's no hyperbole either. This is literally on the lower end of porn in terms of writing quality in terms of characters, worldbuilding, action, comedy, and everything else, with nothing going for it except the soapy tits. It's a WN adaptation, meaning the writer was inspired by preexisting anime, which is not only fairly analogous to the spread of cancer cells, but also a pretty good demonstration of how the editors think when adapting this from a WN to a LN, and to a manga, preserving the dearth of inspiration and effort with every adaptation. Shit, it even got an anime adaptation, like there was nothing more worthwhile just waiting for someone to invest a bit of money into.

Compare and contrast WN adaptations like The Wolf Won't Sleep, which has been given a shit about by both writer and artist, and yet got the axe while it was still good.

The people in charge aren't interested in proper art or storytelling, they just want to shovel the corn syrup, crack cocaine equivalent of art into your face because that's what makes a work earn more money in the absolute shortest term, and if it doesn't work, well, it can just be axed and replaced by the newest throwaway serialization. You think this thing adapted into a full season will get anything but a universal panning by critics and an overwhelming amount of disappointed fans who realize just how goddamn wasteful it is to watch this spread over hours instead of just a throwaway few minutes? No, but it sure as shit will get a slew of suckers to tune in for that first episode after they see the latest generic bouncy animal girl tits in an advertisement somewhere. They'll invest 40% of the budget into that first episode so you get a good first impression, and then you'll keep tuning in for way too long, possibly until the season finale even after the quality goes down in episodic increments, like a frog boiling but in diarrhea, because that's how human psychology works and they fucking know it.

Anime is trash and so am I, but at least I'm not in denial about it, and neither should you be.

@twinklecake It's a business. There must be strong demand for trash isekai because new series just keep coming. The fact this carries the harem tag pretty much, alone, already reveals what kind of depth the writing is going to have.

@Kaarme The Monogatari series, Mahou Sensei Negima, self-aware garbage like Nukenai Seiken-chan and probably a whole bunch more harem works all have plenty to offer no matter what you might think of their intellectual depth. This is worthless on every level. It even fails to be porn.

The thing that pisses me off is that they could easily encourage demand for more mentally demanding (and therefore rewarding) content if they wanted to, instead of this blatantly societally destructive shit, as they're absolute geniuses at cultural engineering. But nope, they'd rather promote bad habits like instant reward-seeking and aversion to learning even when reading, the one pursuit thought of as being more intellectual than any other, and it works on you even if you're perfectly self-aware about it (like me) because they attack all the common human psychological points of entry at once. It's a whole bunch of misplaced effort, steering us completely in the opposite direction of where we need to go and I hate myself for being a part of it.

@twinklecake got it, your taste is too sophisticated for this smut isekai harem story.
"this blatantly societally destructive shit" lmao.
Here is the thing: This shit is made by and for people in a crushingly competitive society. Thats what it makes it flourish, but thats also what makes its citizens want a escape into a fantasy.
Some want stories about revolutions; others want one about getting into a dungeon, get money, and fuck their hot and loyal bought pseudo-wife at night, rise and repeat.

"steering us completely in the opposite direction of where we need to go and I hate myself for being a part of it."
What are you waiting for? Get out, and be. better.
You are basically asking for emotional support here, so here it is: GO.
LIFT AND GET GAINS.
GET A BETTER JOB.
HOOK UP WITH THAT HOT CHICK.
JUST. DO IT.

@Denker-Bosu There are oodles and kaboodles of industries where the competitiveness results in something positive, and plenty of dungeon or harem stories that are competently written, just like there are burger joints that try to make actual good burgers to get you to keep coming back instead of pumping it full of whatever addictive substances they can get away with. And yes, my taste is absolutely too sophisticated for this smut isekai story, and if your IQ is in the triple digits, so should yours be.

I also don't have any use for any type of support from strangers on the internet, but thanks for trying anyway, you melodramatic idiot.

@twinklecake I guess you aren't sophisticated enough to know that that wasn't the point about my comment about "competitiveness" but how utterly exhausted the employees are left after finishing said competition for the day, with their monotonous routines.
After a hard day's work, they don't want a deep intrinsic story about morality and shiet. Not everyone needs to sniff their own farts and presume about "muh taste" to feel better about themselves.

This story is competently written for this alone: There are no inconsistencies in the world-building or characters so far. That alone means its "competent"
If the very plot of the story, and the characters aren't to your taste (not because they are inconsistent, but just because you dislike their personalities) doesn't mean this is bad, it means you should be looking somewhere else.

Again, this is a story about going to a dungeon, grinding, and banging your hot pseudo-wife at night. Moreover, there are plenty of little details to characterize the slow but steady progression of the characters' relationship.

Glad you appreciated my efforts! I hope you stop hating yourself one day for reading isekai harem themed mangas! I know you can do it!
NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE just keep repeating that ok?

@Denker-Bosu But that just means I'm right, stupid. It's made to fit into and facilitate, as previously stated, a societally destructive and cancerous lifestyle and is nothing but a symptom of something horrific that really needs to change over there, to the point where countless mangaka have made their works centered on what a shitty lifestyle it is. This feeding into a mode of existence globally famous for being record-breakingly suicide-inducing only means I'm right for yet another reason why this is steering society in the opposite direction of where it needs to go.

As for consistency, that's merely one of a million different factors of what makes a story good or bad, so saying everything being consistent is enough to make a story competent is basically like saying shit doesn't stink if it isn't chunky. It's complete nonsense.

It's also complete nonsense to accuse me of hating the characters' personalities if they don't have even 1% of the components of an actual personality in the first place. None of these supposed details have managed to make it not so: It's full of cookie-cutter waifus designed to be as inoffensive as possible, catering to the lowest common denominator with acts and sentiments that have the shallowest type of appeal, with worldbuilding so goddamn bland that it makes my balls quiver with disgust. It completely and utterly fails to be engaging on almost every level, even as nothing but a means of escapism, utterly indefensible on all fronts except the soapy tits, which are admittedly nice... But then again, there are many more pairs like that in actual porn, attached to equally well-drawn and far more interesting characters in scenarios that are more lifelike and/or engaging and/or interesting and/or arousing, so it doesn't even really serve as a proper means for escapism, not unless you're working at the cultural level of a preteen, which Japan advertises itself as being the opposite of.

I've also made the previous point that isekai harems can be good unlike this particular one, so even your characterization of me is completely off-point, like every single other thing you've claimed. But hey, you used all-caps and bold print, so congratulations on being needlessly confident. I'm sure it'll get you laid with someone above your level one day, even if they immediately regret it afterward.

@twinklecake oh so you were looking after japan's societal issues? How noble of you.
Something I notice in your comments: You can do the talk, but can't be bothered to give examples, just insist that you are right.
"There are millions of different factors of what makes a story good or bad" but can't be bothered to explain which ones. At least I gave a bloody standard as to what "competent" is.
"if they don't have even 1% of the components of an actual personality" MC's paranoid, self-serving and egocentric personality has been clearly shown and developed through each chapter. Its your problem if you can't pick up on those. Same with Roxanne's doubtful but resignated approach to the MC, turning into a more trusting and expectating one after getting to know him.
You will probably just say" oh thats just the 1% I talked about" without bothering to explain how you quantify the rest of the 99%
You can't be hold to a standard if you have no standard, so you can't be wrong, am I right?

And you know, I started pressing on you so you can give away those so called examples of better isekais similar to this, but better, but man, you just can't be bothered huh? Just to throw you an example, I liked Road to Kingdom so far. Not an isekai but a smut fantasy story, but it works. At least I can be bothered to be hold to a standard.

Thanks for noting my self-confidence. Its better than being a "melodramatic idiot" and talk about how "I hate myself" for reading an isekai smut, but its not like thats a high standard either.
