This dude's pretty much the closest representation of how I'd be handling an Isekai, carefully and methodically, though I would most likely be more open about my origins and capabilities to my slaves (yeah, I'd prolly do the whole "purchase slaves for party members" thing because I've got trust issues), that's if it's guaranteed that my commands are absolute and backed by magic.

I'm not proud of it, but I'm not about to get my ass killed for trusting the wrong person and getting backstabbed in the process, or following some dumbass who can't assess things calmly and logically.

@TheOne320 I thought it was
villager 5 and defeating two monsters with one hammer swing. The thing was that they often swapped to explorer before villager 5 so they couldnt become smiths because of that, as they cant level more than one job at once and wouldnt go back to villager as its rare to change jobs on temples (costly as well).
But its been a while I read so I could be remembering it wrong.

@CBC As you mention, the MC does have trust issues. Very, very, intense ones, considering he was contemplating suicide before being isekai'ed due to being ostracized and bullied.

The only reason was able to interact with the first people he met was because he still treated them like NPCs at the time.

That means Roxanne was the first person he started to be able to interact normally with. Even so, notice that he's been abnormally and secretively wary of Roxanne's feelings even before Sherry arrived. With both Sherry and Roxanne he's obsessed with being weighed "positively". They are the first people he's probably had a "normal" relationship...maybe since ever.

The reason I explain this is because he's not so motivated by logic, fear of death or compassion, as he is by his past trauma. For example, it took him talking to an adventurer who died immediately after giving him his story to finally seriously contemplate the idea of dying.

But that's fine, because that's what this story is really about. Not so much about a harem protag who is super careful and does things in a logical and clever manner. But a guy who is slowly rehabilitated by his own slaves, overcomes his past trauma and becomes a better person for it. That is why the grindy, windy pace at which the story develops by the way that many complain about. Read back knowing this and you'll see loads of examples of how he's slowly being nudged and prodded on this path in almost every chapter even in the manga version, and it's pretty methodical.

@CBC Same, except I probably wouldn't do something as insane as go into a dungeon, even if I had the power.

Maybe my girls would be street vendors for me. I would hold up inside my fortified home as they sell items I make using knowledge of modern physics.
If that fails, I'll just use my TP skills. Fruit, ores, and fish that are normally sold with transportation fees added on could be transported and sold by me without me having to pay for 3 days worth of food and water for me and some horses. Just being able to tp people was a job in this world, transporting large quantities of items quickly has to be worth something.

@CBC indeed, in an isekai, you have no allies, nor information, and overly relying on cheat skills is the same as death. The most important things to gain is individuals who can't take advantage of you and as much information as possible. Slaves are only slaves when you see them as slaves; after being purchased and being under a slave contract, you can treat them however well you like and don't have to worry about getting stabbed in the back. Having people who understand your situation ASAP but can't tell other individuals is also a HUGE advantage as they can immediately tell you everything you need to know and get you caught up to speed with that world's common sense and circumstances. AH and if you are summoned by a kingdom you should always remember: you are a tool, they are your benefactor; in no way are they your ally, nor are they people you can trust. Question everything. Once you are no longer of use they will dispose of you; give up on returning home and plan ahead. Use them as much as they use you. A quick survival guide for isekai ^-^

Seems others also like that experimentation MC does to uncover job conditions.
Overlord has this as well. Just 1 reason to like both.

those last lines were pretty self centered and selfish. He feels at ease being at the back, and he's glad he doesn't have to be on the front. Kind of makes it seem like he considers their lives disposable, which sort of leaves a bad taste in my mouth when considering that. I guess, in that world's logic though slaves are definitely disposable and much more desirable to have as a vanguard, but MC isn't from that world and I would assume he'd at least have a little bit more guilt over such things.

Jesus those pants hug her ass tighter than a tragic isekai hero hugs the fresh corpses of his friends and family he failed to save.
