i don't really remember much from the novel, I might be wrong but I think the scene where the world tree is withering was originally not a funny scene at all.
I mean, I was caught off guard by how the manga added something comedic, that was nice tho lmaoo..

iirc, they're like the last protector of the forest/that world, so them being weak and eventually dying would definitely cause panic..
